Just been down to B&Q, LT... you're right, there are some nice finishes for the doors. The ones DH had his eye on elsewhere didn't fit with what we need on closer inspection so we have come home with a handful of brochures and notes.

Erme, bedtime isn't my strong point! Fell asleep due to having a cold at tea time yesterday therefore wasn't tired enough to sleep later... but when I got to sleep I actually did quite well. Am working tonight so taking it easy today... this is the ideal day for a kip on the sofa to set me up for a night's work, but I rarely manage daytime sleep.

The MS game - look to the right-hand column and there's a red box entitled 'Fun stuff and the Site' - the game is the top option.

We are so far managing on a reduced food budget this week but that's only worked because we've had two lunches out and the kids haven't been home so much... so when all's said and done we will have spent more this week on food than usual, even if it comes out of a different budget.

No direct spending today but I asked DH to get some groceries which brings us to £9.50 left in the food budget till Monday. For us, that's good - but doesn't pay back the extra spent over Christmas.

We have also got our act together and taken a wardrobe door to have a new mirror fitted. The quote for a plain mirror was £40 and I am hoping they can do a bevelled one because that's what the original was... haven't yet asked DH if the shop can do that and if so how much...

I won't be making the mortgage overpayment this month because I felt too poorly to sort it out but the money's there. That can wait till next week at the least.

I have most of my New Year's Resolutions but still need to put them together. 2011 has been a better year in most ways chez Miggy. I don't know how many 2011 resolutiuons I kept, but I doubt it's any at all! Still, if I so much as made a start on them that's progress, and I know I will have made a start, because I always do - every January 1st...

I'll be at work tonight and tomorrow night so here's wishing everyone all the best in 2012.

    Should auld acquaintance be forgot
    And never brought to mind
    Should Auld acquaintance be forgot,

    And auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
    For auld lang syne.
    We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.

Head above water again - nights at work are done for a few days though I'm pleased to say I was offered an extra in a fortnight's time which equates to roughly £75, and I already had an extra 7.5 hours rotaed in. My work says they can't afford overtime but when there's sickness it has to be covered so we all fight for it. ;)

The mild weather is over - there was a south wind blowing this morning but was it warm and sultry? It was NOT. It was as sharp as a knife as I wandered home in the pre-dawn twilight... and wandered is probably a good word as I'm not sure I was even up to walking in a straight line, LOL.

I have put a load in the washing machine as a gesture towards normal life and begun to put things on this year's calendar. Am still full of cold but it's better for having had a rest today.

I'm going to change my sig to add in the two challenges I'm on, and give some thought to a Flylady challenge. I used to belong to some lovely Flylady groups and I know there's a thread here but I sometimes struggle with it when there are emotional things going on - I tend to shut down but the instinct is still there to try to help others so I found it was too much emotionally. :( So now I need to find something that works for me.

The forum's quiet this morning - either everyone's gone to work or they've been blown away by the storms.

Once again I was far too late to bed last night - 2.30 ish!!! - due to sleeping during the day, and what's worse, I didn't chase DS2 up to bed till about two so he will be out of the good pattern he's in when his Dad's in charge.

Plan for today - another coffee, then piano lesson and later on trog off to see Mum, taking with me some of the things that have accumulated here for her in the past week. Lastly - somehow - make inroads into two huge piles of papers that have somehow grown over the holidays. How? I really don't know. There was too much paper before, but all I remember accumulating was two copies of DD's drama programme, which are an A4 sheet each. What the rest is and where from I have no idea.

Those NY Resolutions didn't get off to a good start by the way, but I was feeling so grotty I'm going easy on myself about it. The cold took a turn for the better last night so no more excuses.

Just wondered (feel free to tell me to MMOB) - if you have blocked sinuses have you tried eucalyptus or menthol crystals in a mug of hot water...and steam...?

Just a random dumb thought. Eucalyptus is pretty much the same as more expensive stuff and quite cheap on ebay....

That's a good idea Erme... I've got some already as it happens, I put a couple of drops in the rinse drawer of the washing machine when I'm doing bedding as it helps keep it nice smelling. I've had a tissue with Olbas oil on the pillow while I've been asleep which is pretty much the same but I hadn't thought about putting it in hot water. I expect the steam would help too.

Went out to piano lesson: it's blowing a gale but not as cold as I expected. Then I found my teacher wasn't expecting me so the lesson's off! That gives me a week to catch up on practice and £10 towards savings - yay!

Not sure if I can count it... can I? But it's £10 I would normally have spent and haven't, it's just not extra coming in.
