so sorry to hear about the cat Miggy, i'm sure he'll appreciate being able to watch the birds from where he his.

Erme - i had those tiles in my bathroom and they were removed when we remodelled it, and we didn't even know they were banned, phew it would have been something else for our buyer to get stressy about.

miggy please take care of yourself, sounds as if you need a day off to relax and recouperate.

I'm back! Thanks for the messages!

Very tired so I won't attempt to answer yet or check other diaries - I got about three and a half hours' sleep last night for some reason: I just couldn't nod off. If that happens at home I get up and put the kettle on and watch TV for half an hour which resets my body clock but I suspect the people we were staying with would have interpreted any noctural prowlings as burglars and I would have ended up coshed by a handy pot plant. So today I am under par.

Yesterday wasn't cheap but was a lot of fun: a bit of a family get together in Liverpool so we paid for lunch for six then for a trip up the tower of the Anglican Cathedral (hang on to your hats and any stray tourists who go sailing past - it's windy!). I bought some gifts but that was under a tenner and one was a book I'd been trying to get Mum for Christmas but which was sold out round here. When we got back to base we bought fish and chips for the multitudes, which by this time had grown to eight. A really good day and well worth it, just as well we don't do it every week! Then eventually the kiddliwinks set off in various directions back home (we supplemented someone's petrol as they were giving lifts to others instead of us doing it). DH and I had a much cheaper day today - a leisurely prowl round the Walker Art Gallery (which is free) and lunch for two in the cafe before driving home.

The rain pelted onto our homeward journey and the wind is bitter again. What happened to all that lovely mild weather?

DS1 has made Shepherd's Pie so we have a free dinner and are apparently having a games evening - so DD informs me - which will be a laugh but will have to stop in time for the last episode of Great Expectations. I hope I don't crash out till after!

The evening was fun but I used my voice too much despite it being a bit fragile over the last few days. Result - tickly hacking cough, so guess what - sleeping on the sofa time for me. That's not a problem, it's very comfy and if I'm insomniac again, the TV, kettle, toaster etc are all to hand. :)

I have a blocked ear and Ma raised my stress levels again last night by phoning 101 times cos I was 10 mins late home. You say like 'I will get into the station at x:xx' and she auto assumes it takes like 2 secs to get home. and doesn't figure out 101 minor things could have gone wrong. Okay for DS - she has London transport to contend with. Not for me :(. But did find out that DS lives in Central London :D...so chuffed about that. :).......Ma let it slip yesterday...:rotfl: (baring in mind I've not had DS's snail addy for like 15 years :(. B-day presents have to be sent to Ma's  :()

So yeah zombiefied cos like I didn't sleep well either yesterday. Think it's going to be a semi pj day today :)

PJ days rock :). Glad you got back okay.

I got a much better night's sleep last night, thanks to sofa and being able to wander about if I chose to (so I didn't) but the voice is very ropey.

Not sure what I'm doing today apart from I promised to visit Mum but I think I might cry off because even though I write things down for her, I know it won't do the throat any good if I have to shout even once! I'll see how I do.

The rest of the household is also on days off due to having enforced annual leave between Christmas and New Year but DH is having an attack of ebaying so that keeps him busy without me having to do anything energetic. DD is out and the boys are still in bed. I am sure there is something MS I could be getting on with... later...

Yeah I just melted a load of soap bits in the microwave and made new soap...(maybe that's why I scored 81% on Martin's quiz LOL)

If I did that I would probably set fire to something!

DH and the boys have been out looking for kitchen cabinets to replace the one that died on us - of course this means a whole set of them, partly so's they match and partly because DH is worried that another one might disintegrate, this time directly over his head. I doubt that (think we had just overloaded the broken one) but would prefer them all to match.

They came back with a photo of some very modern ones which look like a better design for our (narrow) kitchen and are talking measurements, so I think I may have to go and view them tomorrow.

I don't actually prefer modern myself - more a traditional type - but I can see these might lighten the place up.

Cried off the visit to mum and sent her a note - feel a bit groggy.

miggy maybe you can reach a happy medium about the kitchen cupboards, traditional yet light coloured, they are out there.
i'm waiting for b&q to have some of their heavy discounted kitchen furniture as we'll need some for our utility/porch in the new place
