Mobility car. Who can use it...?

Oh and when queried with DVLA, they said it's fine as DH was sole breadwinner at the time and there was no option NOT to have the disabled tax disc via motability.
You may need to query this again though, just going by what I was told via Swansea0 -

Have read this thread with interest and a point occurs to me.
My mother is disabled and has had access to a mobility car for a number of years. She is not in a wheelchair, therefore does not need any special car, but she does not drive herself. I am the nominated driver, but do not live with my mother, although I am one of her carers. I use the car to take her to appointments etc. and do shopping but what if I am calling on her and then going on somewhere else?Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Another very grey aspect of the issue. If you did as you suggest, I can't see anyone taking you to task for that, however if it is the only car you have access too and stretched it to being your everyday car, then you obviously are not complying. Again it's the tax issue that has caught out most, or the misuse of the blue badge, not any issue Mobility have with the use of the car.

On a practical level how many traffic wardens/police are going to check the tax and question the driver , if the car is parked leagly . even if its just in an normal space ,not many .0
-
Again, practically, 'the tax issue has caught out most' - who and how many?
This is a pet issue of cyclonebri is a bit of a red herring.
Here we go again!0 -
The majority of allegations for misuse of a car are made to the DWP, via the Benefit Fraud Hot Line, Internet etc. and are investigated by bad people like me.
In the last 18 months I have arranged for 2 cars to be recalled as they were not be used for the purpose intended, i.e. for the disabled persons benefit.
So be careful, it is not clear cut that using it for work etc will not affect the lease of the car, after all why should tax payers pay for Motability cars to be used for fit and well people to commute to work? I don't think that is right and have no qualms in removing cars where this is happening.
Firstly, taxpayers are not providing Motability cars. Motability is a charity. Admittedly the mobility part of DLA is funded through taxes, but the cars are not. Secondly, it actually says on the Motability website that the car can be used by a spouse for work - as I pointed out very early in this thread. You are wrong to 'take cars away' for such a thing.
The issue of tax discs is a different matter and the DWP have no control over thatOnly 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.0 -

Read the thread again and see what offence is commited, others than me have given cases. The Dvla and Police don't give a monkeys about misuse of a Mobility car, they do about defraudulent use of a "free" tax disc.
Red Herring? absolutely not. I have proven this to Stuart who just won't accept it. You can lead a horse to water but................... unless he can prove me wrong?
Just maybe, because I have a free disc and I am keen not to abuse it, I may just have clue what I'm taliking about. :wall:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
