Where to live in London? Please help

Some parts of east london are great, make no mistake about that.
I lived in E3 for years, although that is expensive you may drop lucky, if I could afford it I would live there again no problem! transport is superb.
( roman rd. bow rd area)
I lived in leytonstone and thats very nice! Lovely, but a bit surburban, depends what you are after, leytonstone is cheap relitavely, I would recommend it without hesitation.
Wanstead is lovely, slightly more further out on the central, as is chigwell, woodford and surrounds, again more burby though but with a nice selection of shops, eateries etc. I would live in any of these places but I love my walk into town now and am spoiled.
Tyhe south side of E9 round victoria park is nice
Im not mad keen on hackney but i have mates who live there and love it
I would live in Bethnal green stepney (near tube, I used to it was fine!) Limehouse, wapping. I would live in Stratford too but Id be selective as to where as there is a lot of poor quality housing at the bottom end.
East london is myth central. I think people have knowledge of what it was like 15 years ago and its stuck.
I lived E3 bottom of the park. I wouldn't go any further East but would go down towards the river. I'm without on everything but Leytonstone & stratford0 -

I have heard that Elephant and Castle is rough, that would worry me. I'm hoping I will find an area where I'll feel safe. That flat does sound good though... I think the safe feeling is more important to me though.
Lots of places are presented as "rough" there are stabbings in chelsea, angel, belgravia, no matter what.
I personally think the "type" of property is more important ie small blocks not LA tower blocks, and the proximity to a main road is important to me. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I went to Barking a couple of weeks ago. No comment.
Youll notice I didnt mention Barking:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I work in Barking but live in Wanstead. Wanstead's really nice. Barking is depressing but not particularly dangerous, I don't think. Some dodgy types but not more dangerous than other some places? Good luck with everything anyway.0

£600 is low for rent? if you are paying more then you are being financially raped.
my sis pays £400 a month for house share, small bedroom. Earlsfield.
I've seen places for 1k a month lmao
What nut would pay such prices. Just for a box.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I lived in E16 for 4 years on and off. I never had any trouble - but for three of those years I was living in a new development - so could be regarded as safer than just a flat on my own somewhere.
I also wanted to say that the word "studio" doesn't always mean everything in one room - a lot of "studios" have seperate bedrooms and bathrooms - but just have one other single room for eating / cooking / watching tv etc. (That's what my old place was like).
At the moment I am further south than Brixton - believe me I was initially unsure about moving "south of the river" - but I'm 3/4 mins away from the station - it takes me 45 mins to get to work - and whilst it might be in what some people think is a "bad" area - as others have said a lot of this is just "myth". I'm 5 minutes away from Balham on the train which is a bonus.
I think every area has its highs and lows - nice places / dodgy places - but you won't be able to tell until you have a look at them - and if you can take your friend with you to look at them all the better!
If you do get any viewings then you can always check with us nearer the time what sort of reputation the area has!
Sorry to hear you'll be leaving your boyf up in hudds - hope he'll be able to come down and visit a lot

I know! Horrendous isn't it?! Whatever next? We'll have complete nutjobs supporting the BNP. Now they should be locked up in a box.0 -

Exactly - £400 for a small bedroom in a place not on the tube network.
£600 for a studio is about the going rate.
You might want to use less offensive language in your analogy as well...:o0 -

Another nut against freedom of speech I see.
