qIt'd be some coincidence if it was a crumpled barcode or something... I know the catchweight/reduced barcodes have prices embedded in them, but each barcode has a check digit at the end, which confirms that the rest of the barcode has been scanned correctly (the check digit's calculated by adding the odd numbers and multiplying by three, then adding the even numbers, then subtracting the result from the next highest multiple of ten, e.g. if the sum is 42, this will be deducted from 50, leaving a check digit of 8).0

How many turkey roasts sell for £77!
If it has picked up an incorrect barcode why is it on the system at £77.0 -

Not with reduced items. The last two or three digits of a reduced items barcode are the price. Take for example, a loaf of bread, say its been reduced to 55p. The bar code for that would be 20104000055
So if that is crumpled and therefore scanned wrong it may come up with something else. That's why all the price mistakes I've found are always on reduced items. (mainly fruit and veg and it always scanned as meat, the reduced department codes must be similar).
I once put a cucumber through and it came up as some kind of meat for £6oo and odd quid!!!:A I love MSE!!! :A0 -

it'll have been the reduced price for it. What it is is the barcode contains two codes, the start of it is the code for what kind of item it is eg 20104 = bread, and the end is the price eg 000055 = 55p, if the code is crumpled then it comes up as something different. So, the turkey wont be on the system as £77, the code will have told the comp that the 'turkey' was 'reduced' to £77.:A I love MSE!!! :A0 -
are you sure the price is the very last few digits?
they're not in sainsbury's and tescos!0 -
i used to work for asda, and these are called 'rogue scans'.
basically the system scans thousands upon thousands of items on each till every day, bearing in mind each till serves 300 customers a day
they are rare, i used to work full time and sometimes would go a month or 2 without any at all, look on the brightside they give you £2 gift card for your troublethings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

Next time you do you shopping at Asda go straight to Customer Services and show then the receipt. Tell that that you want a refund and make comments about making a special trip. They WILL give you some petrol money to cover the trip. It is standard practice (if the customer asks for it).
I have known Asda refund the customer items that were not even bought that Asda, even with other stores tags on them because they do not want a fuss at the front of house.
Don't take the mick, be reasonable and they will give you more than it cost you.
And if you then do you shopping, they have paid you petrol money to do shopping in their store.
I love Asda! Great place.0
