Hey you probs feed your family with good, nutritious (sp??) food. I'd say a lot of the stuff people who spend a few hundred buy is crap! Chocolate, pop, beer, frozen meals. Some people don't even have a piece of fruit in their shopping and they have little kids. It's really bad to see them buying a load of rubbish and knowing that they are gonna stuff their kids full of crap :(

I must admit we have our fair share of choc and beer (well I do !!) but we do eat very healthily, lots of fruit and fresh veg, no frozen meals, home cooked food (very lucky).

yeah its the choccys and beer that makes your shopping so expensive, isn't it? in our house we gets lots too. it's not too bad when you get healthy food, but some people don't! seriously, some families buy 30 frozen meals a week, forzen chips, pizza. Nothing green, nothing healthy. yuk!

ps sorry i kinda gone off topic now

Wow £200 is a fortune to spend on food for a week. That's almost £30 per day.

I think you need to start meal planning and then shop for the meals. Even with a few cans of beers (you shouldn't be drinking everynight;) ) and some choccie you should be able to spend under £100 per week. I know nappies push up expense but its easily do-able.

I often wonder what cashiers make of my shopping basket in the supermarkets as it rarely contains fruit and veg. I prefer the quality and price of my local market for these but to them I suppose it looks like we don't eat any. No wonder Tescos are always sending me bonus vouchers for fruit and veg.

I feel this thread has gone astray. OP did not say that they were trying to cutback their spending but was highlighting a pricing error to warn us all. I am really surprised if ASDA put through these dummy items. If they did surly they would track them and refund the customer as this seems totaly unethical as I am sure the majority of people do not check there bills.

Thanks for the tip, I do usually scan my receipt but think I'll start looking even more closely.

BTW my fruit and veg comes in a box scheme Kitty :D

  • I think these rouge items are when a barcode scanner reads something incorrectly. It is not really anyones fault but it occassionally happens.
The £77 is becuse the machine mistook something for the roast but with meat the barcode contains the price to be charged (77) as different roasts have different weights.

Anyway you really should check your receipts or have some idea in your head what it will cost so you don't have to waste a return journey. A bonus of this is you get a £2 gift card in ASDA if the shelf price was less then the price you were charged.

The other day I saw someone at a checkout telling the assistant that their shopping couldn't have come to that price and the checkout assistant was really helpful going though every item telling them the price even though I think it turned out everyting was fine.
