Definitely agree that this thread should be kept as far away from the miscarriage thread. I have experienced neither, so no idea about the physical 'event's that occur, but emotionally they are two completely different things (despite perhaps some similar feelings of guilt, emptiness, etc being felt). For the record I find abortion a hard subject to discuss, OP, I do wish you healing and that you are able to move forward in the long term, but for my own benefit I shan't read much more of this thread.xx

I can understand why you say that. However, I am currently experiencing a missed miscarriage, and have to say that several of the posts on this thread from people who have had abortions have really resssured me, as they no doubt will reassure ladies considering abortions, as the procedures used to remove the 'products of conception' are the same- I had the medical option on Friday which failed, and will have the surgical procedure tomorrow. So, although my situation is different in that I am losing a baby I had planned and longed for, this thread has been a great help to me, so thanks to people who have posted their experiences.

Glad some posts have help you :).
I agree there can be overlap in procedures, it was really for OP's own benefit that I agreed with whoever said that this thread and miscarriage threads should be kept apart. There are bound to be raw emotions on m/c thread which could result in perhaps less than constructive posts to OP. I am not saying everyone who has had a miscarriage would feel this way, but understandably the OP will already be feeling emotionally raw too, and is, I am sure, fully aware of the implications (physical/medical and emotional) of her decision.
For the record anyone who has had a still-birth, miscarriage, or had to decide about a termination for whatever reason, has my sympathy. I personally don't believe in abortion for non-medical reasons but respect every woman's choice is an individual one!

  • Orkney star, can I just point you to my last post, about a 12 year old girl when I was at school years ago was raped and fell pregnant? she had a termination - do you thoughts still stand on that?

(Please, I am not trying to cause an argument I am just interested in thoughts)

TBH I would stretch medical reasons to cover that- her psychological (and perhaps physical) health would be at risk ? (of course defining psychological health may be difficult in practice in some cases I realise). I would view rape of a woman of any age in that way (again brings difficult issues with family, spouse rape etc).
I am not trying to argue either .
It is possible for us to discuss these things in a respectful way :), what I don't want to do is open up a debate which might encourage posting of opinions which will upset OP any more....that sort of thing should be kept to discussion time, if people want to discuss it really. In fact tbh, I feel we have even pushed it here :o....sorry OP (hugs).
