Definitely agree that this thread should be kept as far away from the miscarriage thread.

This is why I have started this thread. I was trying to be sensitive to the needs of the ladies (and gentlemen too for that matter) that have lost a desperately wanted pregnancy. If you had read all the way from the beginning you would have known that.

    Gawd, now I'm feeling defensive over starting the bloomin' thread {roll eyes}

You shouldnt do. I think its great you started one. As someone who has had 2 abortions and 11 miscarriages yes they are different but doesnt make them wrong.

I would rather women had abortions every mother than have children they do not want.

    Hi Icey,

Don't let them get to you hun, you've gone out of your way to be considerate.

Which kind are you having, the medical one with pills, or the surgical one?

Icey77 I was agreeing with you!!! I did read from the beginning.
Don't feel defensive, I did my best to make it clear in my posts that we all need to be sensitive to you (referred to the OP), and anyone in else in a similar position, so I hope I am not one of the ones who you are directing this at ?

I really wonder who you are referring to ? Most people (apart from maybe a couple of posts) have been sympathetic and agreed that it was a great idea for the OP to start this thread.
Despite my personal feelings on abortion (and we are all entitled to our personal views) I have every sympathy for icey77 and her dilema/feelings/worries!

This is the kind of grownup and thoughtful post that is needed on an emotive subject such as this. Thankyou.

Orkney star, can I just point you to my last post, about a 12 year old girl when I was at school years ago was raped and fell pregnant? she had a termination - do you thoughts still stand on that?

(Please, I am not trying to cause an argument I am just interested in thoughts)
Why such an emotive post either you believe in abortion or you don't. Most abortions are done for social reasons which is against the law yet still happen on vague pretend medical issues.

I have every sympathy for rape/abuse victims and those who find out their child has serious health problems. Others have made their own choice and should keep it behind closed doors as people are very polarized by this issue.

  • Hi Op, perhaps you should read the booked called the "common secret" by Susan Wicklund. She is a doctor who works in an abortion clinic in calafornia.

I heard her being interviewed on radio 4 once and she talked about the kind of people having abortains - which included the leader of a pro-life group - which of course she wanted done "on the quiet".

She herself had an abortion - and talked very openly about how she didnt feel regret / guilt etc, but more relief and how her patients felt the same, although if you listen to the general media you would think most women would feel extreem guilt and depression. I suppose if you have one and feel bad after its seen as ok to talk about it - but I dont think its as socially acceptable to have a termination and freely talk about how you made the right choice.

I havnt read the book - but reading this threat has reminded me that I would really like to!

Yes people are very polarized by this issue and indeed you have made your feelings clear.

However; a pratice that has been legal for over 40 years to be kept behind close doors as if some kind of 'dirty secret'? I can't and won't agree with this.

I respect your views but kindly ask that you perhaps close your door to this thread and allow people to disuss such an issue openly and without judgement as indeed the OP requested.
