I'm just amazed that you can lose so much so quickly - if one pound weight loss is equivalent to a defecit of 3500 calories I would have to eat nothing for a month to lose that amount of weight and you've been doing it for less than a month and have been eating.

LOL - it's all scientific! Because I am eating mainly protein (90%+ during the week) there is some kind of reaction going on in my body that makes the weight drop off.

I skipped over the science bit in the book after I had convinced myself that enough research had been done to ensure that it wasn't damaging :o

Just one thing, do people think nursery nearer work or home is better?

Nearer work I could get there quicker if need be BUT would then have to do a 20min car journey with potentially ill child PLUS if I was ill then it would be a trek to drive him there whereas nearer home would mean 5 minute car journey.

I think near work, BUT thats cos work has a nursery which is £29 a day, I am hoping he doesnt need to go though (although I did want him in nursery we cant afford it)
    My mam - Monday
    MIL/Mam - Alternate Tuesdays
    MIL - Wed
    Me - Thurs
    Me - Fri

BUT they have just had a meeting at work saying no one can reduce or increase their hours, so I am not sure where I stand now, although I am hoping thats just for people who just want to randonly go part time and not for people whove just had a baby (my friend thinks I will be able to reduce hours cos how bad would it look if the government wouldnt allow a new mam part time (thats who I work for, dont hate me lol))

But if I had to go back full time it will suck cos I will basically just be going to work to pay the nursery!

  • If you go near to work and you change job then you may need to change childcare too...although I guess this works if you move house too!

I think it also depends on how far from home you work...I work 35 miles from home so if I had to pick Benjamin up because he was poorly (like I did on Monday) then he would have to travel all the way home poorly and I would find it hard to concentrate to drive. He did have to wait for me to get to him on Monday but at least he was comfortable-ish at the CM's lay on the sofa with the girls reading him story books! Then he only had 5 mins in the car until we were home.

But ultimately I think you need to find the best childcare that you are most comfortable with and work it from there.

CAFC, A friend of mine hasn't had her daughter immunised. I think it's a brave choice to make and not one I'd be able to.

FWIW, our Dr was apparently very understanding of it and she hasn't been hassled at all... But then we don't have a health visitor...

Edit: I've never been asked if Aimee is vaccinated before staying with a childminder or nursery... I would ask her if maybe she's getting confused with boarding kennels...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

She gave me a very pitiful look and said that our gp would want to discuss this with me, and it was highly likely that L wouldnt be able to attend a child minders/nursery/baby and toddler groups if he wasnt immunised so not only was I affecting his "future health" but also his "future social development"....felt like I was being struck off, black mark against my name, and a little mental file being kept on me now...
I've never sent Alice to a child minder or nursery but we do go to a group at the library and I can assure you that they have never enguired about her vaccination status.

I then asked if she had the ingredients list to hand for what was in each injection...
    She said No
I said can you name some of them for me....

And alas........... no, she said that wasnt part of her job, and that if I wanted to know, as "you seem so interested" I should research it through the "proper and appropriate" channels...

Honest to God, I love her visits :rotfl:

    Cant wait for tuesdays:T
It's so complicated working out what is in them.

The creche J is in now asked what imms he'd had on the application form but I've not seen anything about children that HAVEN'T had them.

CAFC - would you like me to ask them just to see what they say?

Agree with Susan, you don't HAVE to see the HV. I declined the 9-12 month check but rang my HV just out of politeness, before she got chance to argue I told her I was happy with his development as were the creche so we wouldn't be attending. She just said ring me if you need me. I've not had him weighed since the beginning of May and that's only because they did it in A&E when I took him in.
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?
  • I was asked about Benjamin's vaccinations when I started with the CM...although I kind of got the impression that it was to ensure her records were complete / she could be aware of any potential risks rather than to kick us out if he hadn't had them.

SS I wasnt aware you could get the MMR seprate, what age are they due that one?
I don't know how it works in Germany but here you can only getthe single vaccines privately. Alice had the measles but because we weren't having the rubella, we had to skip a clinic and they didn't take the deposit for the next one (I presume it's to do with the fact that they're supposed to encourage people to have all of them that they couldn't just move the mumps forward.) and we've not heard fromt hem since despite many e-mails and phone messages. There are periodic shortages of the single mumps vaccine (because every so often the mnufacturer stops making them for a while) which may also be a factor but I'm not bothered about her having it any more so haven't bothered. I think if you had all three it would be in the region of £350-400 although it was two years ago Alice had her Measles one so prices may have gone up.

I need to check with her doctor actually, he's pushing MMR and thinks I'm weird already for still BFing and using a sling. He can jog on though...
