Advice please!! Letter I propose to send in about fee increase. Need to bear in min its going to my employer rather than the creche

Is the proposed fee of £49-£51 acceptable for 2011/2012?

No, it is not. In fact the increase in fees due 1st September 2010 is also unacceptable. Whilst I can fully understand there will be no funding coming from both H**** PCT and K**** PCT, a £10 per day increase (rising by another £10) is not justified.
Whilst the staff that work at the crèche are absolutely fantastic and I am happy that my son is well cared for, there are a number of issues which contribute to the argument against raising the fees by so much.

• The crèche is housed in an old building which is not purpose built, on being shown around the crèche I was informed a new building would be started in 2011.
  
  
• The corridor leading to the crèche frequently floods during bouts of heavy rain. As well as being a serious Health and Safety risk, the corridor smells musty and damp for at least a week afterwards which is not very pleasant.
  
  
• The rooms and garden areas are quite small compared with other local nurseries.
  
  

Should a new purpose built crèche go ahead, then I feel the increased fee from September 2010 would be warranted, however the proposed increase from April 2011 will never be justified. Creches in London charge £60 per day which you would expect but for a crèche located in S***** £49-£51 a day is far too excessive.

Below are 8 different crèches/nurseries which are local to W**** Hospital, the average childcare cost is £33 per day (this does not take into account the weekly fee which is often discounted and reduces the daily costs). All of this information is readily available on the internet.

Raising the cost to £39 would make this crèche the most expensive in the area, it seems unfair to hit those people who have just had their pay frozen for 2 years and are at risk of loosing jobs with the demise of the PCT’s and cutbacks everywhere else.

I trust you will take the above into consideration when applying the next pay increase.

Mention that it's a 66% price increase in 12 months (or whatever it is), while other creche alternatives have no such intentions.
Put the list of things that are not great about the current one at the end or otherwise rephrase to make clear that they're not the main point of your argument. The main point is that the creche will end up dramatically uncompetitive in its pricing, your side point is that to justify such a thing they'd have to have incredible facilities when in fact they're only average at best.

Bit of a small rant, i've been informed that some people in my family and extended family think im under the thumb! :mad:
Only because i wont do things for them and they think DH is controlling me. I dont think they understand that its me that chose not to do certain things and DH has nothing to do with it. Grr grr grr. :mad:

Im not taking it the wrong way, even though Lily was vaccinated im always curious about why people choose not to and i understand why.

Im in the middle camp, im not for vaccinations but im also not against them. All i know is they hurt and they make Lily ill a few days later

Thanks for asking I haven't spoke to him, but i sent him a text to let him know my phone is back and im available for chats. I also got him a gift yesterday.
Its a Superman T-Shirt that says "My dad is the best" or something similar to that

Sorry I know nothing about childcare and creches etc..... but if it was likely to cost me that much per day they'd be no point in me going back to the kind of work I have experience in.....

Therefore I salute any mums/dads who do go back to work and deal with all this additional stress of nurseries etc

Nice to hear people havent been hassled when declining. I think maybe I'd just irritated our HV, so her back was up etc.... I do find some of her answers quite comical but if thats the information she's given, then thats all she can relay to others, which is a shame really...Anyway Im ready for the battle (should it happen) but Im not gonna go looking for one, hopefully my decision will be politely accepted

Had an ok night last night. L is doing quite well in his cot and he's accepted the sleeping bag now as well. We've also moved up to size 3 nappies at 6 weeks LOL what a little fatty I have.... He went to bed at 8:45 (i got into bed at 9pm) woke at 2, went back to sleep at 2:30am and then woke up again at 5am, and the slept till 7:45am.... he was very whingey late afternoon/evening, so I think he might be setting up for another growth spurt. Was only quiet when with me, but didnt want feeding/winding.....
Lets see what today brings us

I think it was slow but not so slow as to lose your interest. As I said I was reading whilst being induced so I am perhaps not the best judge. It is ultimately a stunning book though and well worth a bit of ploughing at the beginning imho. I could send you my copy if you like? But I would need it back because I will read it again one day.

I might make brum but not 100% sure yet...

Posting in the car on the way to see my family back in Derbyshire. Can't wait to see those familiar beautiful hills and dales and feel 'home'

Sami - i dont like the ingredients, i dont like that you're not given unbiased/neutral information and therefore "offered" the injections, its just expected. HV treated me like an idiot when i said L wouldnt be having them, spoke at me like i was a child....i also dont believe the "science" behind it.....
i worked in a welness practice before we moved and so had a "healthy minded" environment around me but now i feel out of the support network and i dont want to crumble due to pressue from gp/hv/my mum etc

FWIW, our Dr was apparently very understanding of it and she hasn't been hassled at all... But then we don't have a health visitor...

Edit: I've never been asked if Aimee is vaccinated before staying with a childminder or nursery... I would ask her if maybe she's getting confused with boarding kennels...

All the nursery forms I got recently ask which imms the child has received, no mention that a child wouldn't be allowed to go tho, I think maybe its more because they perceive a higher risk if a child came down with something.

To be honest I think I would be fine not having the kids imm'd, I regret giving in to the pressure to have my MMR booster (which I should have been told NOT to have as I was TTC!!) I had one of the M's and the R too before I was the age you were offered it so it seems a bit pointless to me, I clearly have/had a strong enough natural immunity

although I've just asked Hubby what he would say/do if I'd said I didn't want the boys to have them and his response was "I'd take them myself because I don't want them dying of horrible diseases" I obviously would have had a battle on my hands then:p

still catching up so sorry if I'm all out of place now!

Sami - My DH was like that till we went to that talk, and now he's worst than me.... but he's much more of the "Im right your wrong" mentality. I've explained to him countless times that some people have a different take on the information, but he cant see how. Typical man - very much black and white, no shades of grey....

my skin has gone to pot, had a huge outbreak of exzcema (or however its spelt) on my elbows, knees and knuckles.... itches like crazy... just as well i have Dr's next week for check up....

btw what do they do at the six week check?
