  • Hmmmm, I read so many reviews about this book and they often said it was waaaay to slow to get going so I haven't bothered to read it. Did you think that too MFD?

Grrrr D has woken up every hour since 8 and is currently thinking 2am is a really great time to get up and play. I disagree :(. Guess who is currently winning the 'debate' :o

I think it was slow but not so slow as to lose your interest. As I said I was reading whilst being induced so I am perhaps not the best judge. It is ultimately a stunning book though and well worth a bit of ploughing at the beginning imho. I could send you my copy if you like? But I would need it back because I will read it again one day.

I might make brum but not 100% sure yet...

Posting in the car on the way to see my family back in Derbyshire. Can't wait to see those familiar beautiful hills and dales and feel 'home' :)

I just have no idea how the vouchers and that work... I'm sure someone with half a brain more than me will come along soon though :)

    I mean... I can't even order moondough...
if you somehow did managed to order it and you give us a review when it arrives please :D I was totally sucked in by the advert and was all oooh we NEED some :p

    Susan - thanks for that...

Sami - i dont like the ingredients, i dont like that you're not given unbiased/neutral information and therefore "offered" the injections, its just expected. HV treated me like an idiot when i said L wouldnt be having them, spoke at me like i was a child....i also dont believe the "science" behind it.....
i worked in a welness practice before we moved and so had a "healthy minded" environment around me but now i feel out of the support network and i dont want to crumble due to pressue from gp/hv/my mum etc
sorry I disappeared but I was going to say Susan would probably have the best advise ;)
CAFC, A friend of mine hasn't had her daughter immunised. I think it's a brave choice to make and not one I'd be able to.

FWIW, our Dr was apparently very understanding of it and she hasn't been hassled at all... But then we don't have a health visitor...

Edit: I've never been asked if Aimee is vaccinated before staying with a childminder or nursery... I would ask her if maybe she's getting confused with boarding kennels...
All the nursery forms I got recently ask which imms the child has received, no mention that a child wouldn't be allowed to go tho, I think maybe its more because they perceive a higher risk if a child came down with something.

To be honest I think I would be fine not having the kids imm'd, I regret giving in to the pressure to have my MMR booster (which I should have been told NOT to have as I was TTC!!) I had one of the M's and the R too before I was the age you were offered it so it seems a bit pointless to me, I clearly have/had a strong enough natural immunity :p

although I've just asked Hubby what he would say/do if I'd said I didn't want the boys to have them and his response was "I'd take them myself because I don't want them dying of horrible diseases" I obviously would have had a battle on my hands then:p

still catching up so sorry if I'm all out of place now!

Ps. CAFC I thought you put your point across very well, no I'm right your wrongness that I could see :D

Sami - My DH was like that till we went to that talk, and now he's worst than me.... but he's much more of the "Im right your wrong" mentality. I've explained to him countless times that some people have a different take on the information, but he cant see how. Typical man - very much black and white, no shades of grey....

my skin has gone to pot, had a huge outbreak of exzcema (or however its spelt) on my elbows, knees and knuckles.... itches like crazy... just as well i have Dr's next week for check up....

btw what do they do at the six week check?

MOTM they are called Sock-ons - again this is the first link I found, so no idea if it is the cheapest one or not.

We have tooth number 10 here, but it is not the one I was expecting to be number 10, so I suspect we will get number 11 and possibly number 12 in the next week. That would explain the grumps then!

We are going out for dinner tonight, but DH is asleep on the sofa and my parents aren't here to babysit yet. Maybe I'll just take a book and go on my own ;)

I'll have a look around for them. Thanks :) Best look for a neutral colour too.

Congrats on the tooth and the best thing to do would be go on your own, but ensure sleepy other half pays the bill ;) Teach him for kipping :p

MOTM I had this book for pregnancy and the related one for the baby. I highly, highly recommend them, but can't send either to you even if you'd accept them because the first one is now with my Very Best Friend (having gone via a good friend who had her baby a couple of weeks ago) and I'm saving the other for once my VBF's baby is ex utero.

Just a recommendation if you were looking for one. I found the What To Expect books very alarmist, TBH, full of the dangerous things that are incredibly rare and lacking in "it's uncomfortable and undignified but probably totally normal".

We'll check those out, thanks. We're not very good at accepting things - me because i'm used to doing things on my own with the girls and Lucy has her reasons - so it's a good job you can't give them away :p

It sounds like the 'What To Expect' books may be 'scare tactics'? Going to the extreme with the anything can happen attitude.
MOTM - I bought 2 books on pregnancy but hardly read them because I signed up to the Babycentre emails which are absolutely fantastic!!

Definitely recommend them :D AF used to get hers the week after me because she was due a week later than me and I used to be dying to tell her what was coming up!! We used to enjoy discussing them and how our babies were developing etc. Hubby loved them too (I forwarded them on each week)

Now, have we signed up to babycentre?...Lucy has nicked the list. We only signed up to what Susan pointed out to us, so if it's not on there (and there were plenty) then we'll take a look at that one too.:D

on immunisations, D will get his but I do understand those who don't go for them. I did have a bit of a "what's the point?" moment when I thought about it as I needed a rubella booster once I gave birth after finding out I have no immunity to it at my booking appointment when I was pregnant. I've had all my jabs and boosters, as well as rubella itself, and I'm still not immune - not holding out much hope for the most recent jab having any effect!

Time Traveller's Wife - didn't like it, just couldn't get into the book at all. Ended up putting it down and haven't picked it back up again and I'm usually one to persevere for fear of missing out on something! I think I picked up The Book Theif instead which was great.

Kindof - E is just lovely, looks really cheeky!

Does anyone elses's young baby thrash about a lot when they're asleep? I'm convinced D has nightmares (about what at a month old I have no idea!) and he's beginning to really disturb himself (and us) when he's asleep by pawing at his face and squeaking. I tried swaddling him but that just didn't go down well (he likes his arms, even if he is a danger to himself!). I'm exhausted being on constant alert with him but don't want to put him in his own room yet - when does it stop?!

Got a letter through from the children's hospital this week too. D has a port wine stain from his eye, diagonally across his temple to his hairline (I think it's quite cute at the moment but they tend to progress with age) and he has to go in and have a scan to check the extent of it and for treatment (if they can do it). Poor boy - I think it involves general anaesthetic and a few uncomfortable treatments :( I feel a bit like a bad mummy because it's essentially cosmetic at the moment but I can't help but think he'd be mad at us when he's older for not doing anything about it when it was easy to treat as they can become lumpy and disfiguring, especially on the face. This is the bit of mummyhood I'm not a fan of - responsible decisions

We watched The Time Traveller's Wife and I don't think hubby was prepared for how good the story was and how weepy he would be. He says he feels drained.

Strange for me because I was reading the book when I was in labour/in hospital/at home being a new mummy so it is mingled with many hormones and memories
How do you think the film measured up to the book? A couple of people told me it was terrible compared to the book?

I don't recall finding it slow at all, I found the book on a shelf in our holiday cottage and read it in about 2 1/2 days (with a good 2 hours beach reading because Caitlyn didn't like the feel of the sand on her feet so wouldn't leave the sun tent... Quite handy really!) I thought it was a great read! :D

Aimee's been sucked in by the advert... She's getting some for christmas... If you don't want a lot of it, you can buy it from Smyths and toys r us... But we figured we might aswell go for the full set since we have no playdough (it went furry!) There's a number on the advert so I think I'll ring them and see if they have any record of me... Stoopid crappy website!

CAFC, all they did at my 6 week check was feel my abdomen and ask me how I felt... Although when I burst into tears and said absolutely rotten, she didn't really know what to do with me and just told me if it got so bad I couldn't leave the house to go back... <shrug>
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Aless - I have my lovely techno xlr fir that and all though it's not a 3 wheeler I can still manage it with one hand, we need the gyres cos we have been walking on some very bumpy ground so the zia wouldn't solve that.

Am off to look at freecycle now.
I think there is a version of the Baby Jogger that has off road tyres, workingmummy and someone else I can't remember has the smaller wheeled babyJ and love it.
I love my P&T for off road but I don't think you could get a 2nd hand one in your budget (does that help any?)

Thanks, Chris has some random brand play doh stuff but I've not opened it, I'm scared of the mess :o I really need to clear a space in the kitchen for him!!
And I actually :rotfl:ed at "told me if it got so bad I couldn't leave the house to go back..." how are you supposed to go to the doc's if you can't leave the house
