Can anyone help me?! have recently received my m&s card - 0% bal transfer for 6 months. About to activate it and transfer balance from existing card (about to finish its 0% period), when browsing website today read that martin is now saying 'don't touch the m&s 0% offer with a bargepole for switching debt!', he doesn't explain why! previously the card was in the list for longest 0% deals, I see it is no longer there.
I need to move debt soon, anybody have any answers?
what should i do? is there some kind of catch that martin has found out about, can find no mention anywhere of why this card is no longer recommended.0 -

Martin is just saying if you use the card to switch debt do not then use this card for purchases as the repayments you make will be taken to pay off the 0% deal first, not the BT
Hope that makes sense0 -

can anyone help? please!
relatively new to this game - shifting debt and using chat forums, so i hope this gets through!
have recently received m& s card -0% for bal transfer for 6 months. Browsing martins site yesterday when read with horror - 'for switching debt, don't touch the m&s 0% offer with a barge pole'!!! - he doesn't explain why. It was on his recommended list for fee free, 0% cards - when i was looking for a card a few weeks ago, now its not on the list!(fine for life of bal and spending credit card but no longer 0% according to martin).
I've got no choice now i need to move the debt in the next week, but what has happened here, does anybody know? Is there some kind of catch? surely all 0% offers have the same terms and conditions? the minimum monthly payment maybe different, but thats usually the only variation isn't it?0 -

thanks zippy
that does make sense, i wasn't intending to make any purchases on the card, just to shift debt.
The way i interpreted martin's statement was clearly more sinister than the way you read it!! It really seemed to me that he was no longer recommending m & s for 0% bal transfers. I feel reassured by your message but not totally convinced!
Can you explain why he has removed m & s card from the list of 0% cards?
( thanks for pointing out that you had already replied to my first message on this subject, i hadn't seen it! told you i was new to this!)0 -
Martin has it listed under best cards for purchases. I have copied and pasted from article see below
The longest 0% purchases card
There's a bonanza on at the moment - the Mark’s and Spencer’s &More card is the longest 0% deal on purchases lasting 12 months, plus it offers loyalty points on all spending (which give you 50p per £100 spending to buy M&S goods). It also has a top deal for those who wish to switch debts to it (see Best Balance Transfers), but don't use that if you're planning to spend on the card. Only use it either to spend on or to shift debts (see why), then use a different card for the other. If you use its balance transfer offer, use one of the following alternative 0% cards.
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever…
…spend on a card after balance transferring to it!
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1107775287,62749,
I intend to use it to pay off debts as do alot of others, going by the number of threads on it. Hope that puts your mind at rest.

thanks again zippy
my mind is now at rest! I had read what martin had to say about m & s card for purchasing yesterday, but i have to say reading it now the meaning seems much clearer. I think this whole shifting debt thing just makes me anxious.
could i bother you with another query? or anyonelse out there?! ( Don't hesitate to refer me onto another thread or forum if you like.)
CC companies always say to allow 10 days for transfer to go through. I was planning to initiate transfer on 2nd oct, which gives them 12 working days. (the 0% period of current card finishes 18th Oct). obviously i am trying to let the current card run for as long as possible but allowing time needed to complete transfer. Am I cutting it too fine would you say, should I make the call before 2nd oct?
A further query- I need to use max 3000 on this card. I also need soon to clear my overdraft and pay garage fees etc and could do with a further 2500-3000. Wondering what you would recommend. Know that Martin says not to make too many applications at once, but if I made appli for post office 0% card mid october do you think that would be acceptable?
I realise all these decisions are mine to make in the end, but
would appreciate any feedback or tips on these questions, thanks.0
