Hi MM ok firstly I think don't panic, who are you banking with? A very similar thing happened to me after I changed my bank to Abbey. When I opened the account I took my id into the branch for verification and the woman took copies. Fast forward a month and I get paid and its not showing in my bank. I call its all very cloak and danger and I'm getting no info about where my salary is. I contact my payroll dept, they do some digging and come back to me to say I need to go into the branch with two forms of id. I go in, and the bank basically lost my photo copies of my passport & driving license and because the account hasn't been verified they froze it. It was a simple (but hugely stressful) thing to resolve.

ur bank cannot take moneis out of your account without your permission (if it is say abbey & A&L which have now merged to santander or another similar situation). Can you borrow £5 or £10 off a friend to get a few bits before you can get there tomorrow? or russle up a storecupboard/dijointed meal for today - in truely difficult times we have "ifit" (if its there we have it if its not we won't) x

If you list what food you have in cupboards, fridge and freezer here or on old style you'll get lots of ideas on how to stretch it to as many meals as poss.

I think you have to ring your branch and explain (as mentioned already by someone) that you can't get to the branch, and you need access to your money. If whoever you get isn't helpful, ask to speak to the manager.
I hope you can resolve this quickly, it's your money and you have the right to it - and the right not to be left stranded and hungry. It's no way your fault that it happened when it did (and the poster on the other thread should read more carefully before they make stupid comments) but these things can choose the worst times to happen and it seems this happened to you.:(
Sending you {{{hugs}}}, and hoping that helps a bit. :)

  • Hi, I don't know if anybody remembers me but I wanted to update you and say thank you to all who helped me in the summer when I was at my lowest.

Things have got better, they got worse to start with. The company I worked for went bankrupt, I got behind with my payments and my stress levels grew.

The company I worked for had a contract with a company who heard about me leaving and offered me employment, on a salary rather than commision only, plus a car allowance, total equal to £29,000 per year.

I took the advice you gave me and challenged my PPI's, Mint have admitted they did not inform me properly regarding cost etc but as I agreed to it anyway they have declined my refund

MBNA did not question it and refunded me just over £1900, I was offered a interest free credit card by my bank who carried over some of the debt.

My outgoings are now down to £1200 which leaves me some extra to slowly pay off my debts quicker, will still take me a few years but I can manage now.

The only annoying thing is, the cc's have lowered by credit amount, below the amount I owe and are charging me to be over my limit - can the do this?

Thank you so much for all your help you don't know how good it was to share it and gain advice. xx

I've just spent the last hour reading your thread and feeling so sick for you and your little girl. I'm so glad you came back with an update or I really believe I wouldn't have slept well tonight for worrying about your situation.

You have done so well since the summer, I'm really happy for you, you deserve a little good luck for a change.

Well done on your new job and the refund from MBNA - fantastic news.

I hope you and your DD have a fabulous stress-free Christmas :santa2:

Well done MM on turning it all around. Don't worry about the time it will take to pay off your debts, you're going in the right direction, and that's what it's all about.
  • Wow - really well done! What an absolute turn around!

I am new to your post but you really have got on top of things - onwards and upwards now.

I've read this whole thread from the first post, you have had one hell of a ride. £29k p/a + car allowance is amazing.
I thought I'd done well to land a job at £19k p/a after spending 16 years surviving with only £10 spare per month, then 5 months on the dole surviving on my redundancy payout + JSA.

Now, you have the chance to really change your life.

Thank you for posting - it's so good to hear things are better for you! Congrats on the new job 'n' all!:T:T:T:beer: That's fantastic! I hope you're settled in there and all going smoothly?
With regard to PPIs, I saw something the other day - Martin's blog I think - where he says banks refuse most applications for refunds, but when taken to the ombudsman, most applications are granted. So might it be worth taking further, if you have the time and energy? (Edit: found it).
I can't help with credit cards, I'm afraid, but I hope someone comes along who can.
