  • Hi MM

Just come accross your thread. I am on my own, have a lovely 7 yr old dd. Am s/e, disabled unable to use my left arm and I dont know what goes in my tea bags but frequently tripping up or falling occasionally , dh was murdered when dd was 10 months old. I know how desparate you must feel at times, but my df journey has taught me so much and continues to do so. I have found great help from a couple of charities , one of which offers support to single parents. Maybe theres one in your area. In fact dd and I are going away in a couple of weeks for a 4 day break with the single parent charity which I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise, and will give us both some restbite from the daily pressure of work etc. I am indebted to them for their support and belief in me and dd that I, we can get through this time.

I have found dd has been just as happy going out for picnics, walks along the beach, anything that costs relatively little. Any one I want to thank for something I bake them a cake or biscuits or make a nice pudding. Dd does a lovely drawing to say thank you.We have rediscovered the simple pleasures in life.

I am also on a tight budget and like you have managed to keep everything miraculously up to date and now do not rely on any credit to get by. Its tough, but its not forever, and I want to be strong and focused to get through this. A spending diary has been fantastic, I have been able to cut back my grocery bill significantly.

Most importantly of all, I am learning to keep my mind positive although its fair to say we all have down days. Nothing is the end of the world. If I couldn't pay a bill tom there are always options. There is a book I would highly recommend full of inspiration and showing that so many people come through trying times. Its called Chicken Soup for the Soul, and I would recommend you treat yourself to this or perhaps see if your library has a copy?.

You are not on your own, and keep posting if you can. This site is just fantastic, there are not enough words to describe the light and hope that can be found on it. Take care

Oh my goodness, what an terrible amount of things to go through for one person ! I think you are amazing and must be so strong, although you must have had some bad times. xx
  • I've just spent the last hour reading your thread and feeling so sick for you and your little girl. I'm so glad you came back with an update or I really believe I wouldn't have slept well tonight for worrying about your situation.

You have done so well since the summer, I'm really happy for you, you deserve a little good luck for a change.

Well done on your new job and the refund from MBNA - fantastic news.

I hope you and your DD have a fabulous stress-free Christmas :santa2:

Thank you, I am looking forward to Christmas now, not bought any presents yet though as scared to spend money at the moment but I am bargain hunting so my spending habits have changed and find it rather addictive looking for the cheapest version now, although my shopping can take hours as a result :D You have a lovely Christmas as well. xx

Thank you for posting - it's so good to hear things are better for you! Congrats on the new job 'n' all!:T:T:T:beer: That's fantastic! I hope you're settled in there and all going smoothly?
With regard to PPIs, I saw something the other day - Martin's blog I think - where he says banks refuse most applications for refunds, but when taken to the ombudsman, most applications are granted. So might it be worth taking further, if you have the time and energy? (Edit: found it).
I can't help with credit cards, I'm afraid, but I hope someone comes along who can.

That is great thank you Miggy, I do think it is strange that they admit they did not fully inform me or words to that effect but then go on to refuse to help.

I've read this whole thread from the first post, you have had one hell of a ride. £29k p/a + car allowance is amazing.
I thought I'd done well to land a job at £19k p/a after spending 16 years surviving with only £10 spare per month, then 5 months on the dole surviving on my redundancy payout + JSA.

Now, you have the chance to really change your life.

Love your signature :D shuuut uuuuppppp :D

Congratulations on your job as well. xxxx

    Hi MM

I'm so happy that you've posted again and that life has turned a corner for you. You sound like a different person to the one who posted in the summer. I was so worried for you and often wondered how you were doing in the meantime.

Well you've been doing just fine sweetie, keep going onwards and upwards and enjoy your life with your lovely daughter :T . Stay in touch and let us all know how you're getting on
