Hi - I don't remember your thread but it sounded desperate so I thought I'd come and have a look in and then found I'd already posted back in July on your thread. Lol. Have just re-read the entire thing and am so happy things seem to be improving for you.

just have to say well done MM, have read it all and im still in tears for you. Im soooooo thrilled that you have found a job that keeps the wolves from the door. My only advice to you is still hang on to the financial lessons you learnt from your ordeal. We all slip from time to time but just remember the bad times and that should keep you on the right track.
Best of luck for your future. xx:A

  • Hi MM - I agree with everyone. Really good to hear things have improved drastically for you, looks like your previous company folding was the best thing for you.

I'm not sure about the CC but it doesn't seem right - who can you contact CAB? CCCS? Good luck x

Someone with more knowledge may have a different idea about your credit card situation, but I would suggest contacting them and explaining you do want to pay them off (and are doing so as your account for the last X months shows). However their mean reduction in credit limit is putting you under greater financial strain and would they
    1) increase your credit limit to over your balance
    2) close the account to new spending
The first would stop you getting the overdrawn charges, the second would assure them that your balance would only go down- which they want. While you are at it you could point our that if they reduced the APR you would be able to pay it off even faster. This last might be pushing your luck, but they certainly won't do so if you don't ask.

    Good luck!

Hi, I don't know if anybody remembers me but I wanted to update you and say thank you to all who helped me in the summer when I was at my lowest.

Things have got better, they got worse to start with. The company I worked for went bankrupt, I got behind with my payments and my stress levels grew.

The company I worked for had a contract with a company who heard about me leaving and offered me employment, on a salary rather than commision only, plus a car allowance, total equal to £29,000 per year.

I took the advice you gave me and challenged my PPI's, Mint have admitted they did not inform me properly regarding cost etc but as I agreed to it anyway they have declined my refund

MBNA did not question it and refunded me just over £1900, I was offered a interest free credit card by my bank who carried over some of the debt.

My outgoings are now down to £1200 which leaves me some extra to slowly pay off my debts quicker, will still take me a few years but I can manage now.

The only annoying thing is, the cc's have lowered by credit amount, below the amount I owe and are charging me to be over my limit - can the do this?

Thank you so much for all your help you don't know how good it was to share it and gain advice. xx

    Hi
I've just read your thread and am so pleased that things are working out for you, you should be really proud of yourself. I've a 3 year old DD and I know how difficult it can be bringing them up (and I've got an OH, but sometimes feel like a single parent, but that's another story!!!:rotfl:) Anyhoo, can you complain to the FOS regarding the above mint PPI? As if they've admitted they did not inform you properly then surely that is misselling?

Keep us posted, these forums are great for inspiration and encouragement, wish I'd come on donkeys years ago

Hi MM, good to see you back and kicking.

For the PPI, did they send a letter agreeing that they had not informed you of everything, or did they only admit this on the phone? Either way, your next step is to pass the case on to the regulator (with all the shakeups going on right now, not sure if it's still the FOS).

With regards the credit card, i believe that are allowed to amend the credit limit to whatever they want as long as they give 7 days notice (under the banking code they should give 28 days). If you are in default, i believe it is 14 days. Did they send a letter giving you notice?

Quite scary that - i wonder how many people have a large amount on creditcards and would be unable to pay if the banks decided to cut everyone's limit by 50%. No wonder they make billions in profit.

I would write to the bank and request that the limit be reduced gradually as you are trying to pay off your debts. No harm in asking. Do you have any empty cards (with a balance transfer offer for existing customers) that you can use to shuffle the balances or get a new 0% transfer card?
