Hi, My A&L was transferred to Santander last weekend. I haven't had any problems as yet in accessing my account through online. Does anyone know if I can pay money into my account using my A&L card at Santander branches?

    MS

Now you have been migrated you can now use any Santander branch with your A&L card.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

Yes- mine changed later, too. A bit of a "stop-start" migration I think!

Quite coincidentally, before I knew about this charade, I opened an account with the Cooperative bank, who arranged with Santander/Alliance and Leicester to transfer all direct debits and the outstanding balance to my new account and close the A&L account. This should have taken place on 28th July. They transferred the DDs but not my cash. The Coop informed me this morning that even they are unable to contact Santander by phone at the moment, and that was the switching team I spoke to so what hope for the rest of us?
I, too, have moved to Co-op bank. I did not tick the box about also closing the A & L account so have had both open for a week or two so I could check what was happening re. switching. Two days ago I wrote to Santander, mailed recorded delivery, enclosing cheque book and bank debit card as they request on their website (not exactly a secure way of doing things...so when I cut up the card I left out the strip with the 3 digit number on the back) and have asked for a cheque. I made sure before I did this that I had a screenshot of my online summary of accounts and a printout of all statements- just in case! Co-op have done the business perfectly well- and although it's a bit of a pain I think I rather like the card reader security.

Who's going to contact Martin then? Anyone prepared to stand forward?

As I started the thread I have just sent an email to the "news" address of MSE. Contacting Martin direct is not easy so maybe one of his staff will see this as worthy of his attention & pass it on. :money:

Well my account number is the same, although they appear to have dropped the extra digit at the beginning (but no one ever used that anyway) and the sort code has changed. I'd still like to know what bank name and address to use when setting up direct debits.

Also I've relied pretty heavily on 'faster payments' recently, does anyone know if santander use faster payments and if they work using internet banking?

Previous postings here suggest that Faster Payments will work fine- after the first payment. In other words, the first payment goes at the usual speed, subsequent payments to that particular payee should go via the FP system.
That has also been my experience with my migrated account.

The first digit, which as you say is never used, is the same as it has always been and is in fact the last digit of the sort code. The same happened when the sort codes changed a few years back.

Thanks. They could've told us that would be the case. Someone I owed money to went overdrawn and subsequently got charge because I assumed my payment would get to her same day.

Considering all the literature sent has suggested we need to 'do nothing', there appears to be quite a few changes and teething problems we should've been made aware of.
