After reading more posts then I can understand your frustrations. I believe a little more preperation should have been made to make the changeover go more smoothly.

It seems that my changeover has gone ok - apart from a crazy direct debit that has appeared called 'Alliance&Leicester', anyone know what this is?

The customer service rep I spoke to didn't know, but she guessed that it might be "something to do with the overdraft", but she removed it, and, so far, I've had no apparent problems - my DDs worked, and I've been able to transfer money between my current and savings accounts.

Having had my second dreadful experience with them yesterday, I have now started the transfer process to First Direct. It's something that's been talked about in previous posts - the fact that it's now impossible to withdraw more than £500 in a single transaction. But worse, it's the fact that last week I called up to ask how I go about getting £900, and was told the Post Office route, but then phoned again this week to check, to find out that the first guy had given me out of date information, and that it's no longer an option, so I'd have to go my nearest branch (which I can't physically get to in my lunch hour!), then a Post Office and finally a cashpoint. The guy in the call centre didn't seem to understand why that would be a problem!

    I feel your pain.
I have had a CC account with them & had numerous problems with it.
As its now clear I am going to close it today.

I feel it's about time Martin took this migration under his wing and brings the matter into the very public domain through his access to the media given the extraordinary number of issues coming to light.

Remember these complaints here are just a tiny drop in the ocean compared to what's happening outside this forum.

Santander need to be brought to book, does MSE have the influence ?

I would suggest that it does. Remember, Martin has been on a number of television shows, that have high viewing figures, Watchdog etc. I would imagine if Martin contacted a show like this and asked for Santander to make comment as well that they would be interested. Not sure Santander would be able to send a monkey to the show to respond though.

    !

That DD actually exists to allow transfers between savings and current account - always assuming you have the former.

Quite coincidentally, before I knew about this charade, I opened an account with the Cooperative bank, who arranged with Santander/Alliance and Leicester to transfer all direct debits and the outstanding balance to my new account and close the A&L account. This should have taken place on 28th July. They transferred the DDs but not my cash. The Coop informed me this morning that even they are unable to contact Santander by phone at the moment, and that was the switching team I spoke to so what hope for the rest of us?

Who's going to contact Martin then? Anyone prepared to stand forward?

Hi, My A&L was transferred to Santander last weekend. I haven't had any problems as yet in accessing my account through online. Does anyone know if I can pay money into my account using my A&L card at Santander branches?
