Then don't speed on motorways either, regardless of the time of day!

Why not? It's one of the few pleasures in life.

    Make up your mind.
One post must be rubbish then.

Er, no. I know from having the speed accurately measured on track and by engineers that when the speedo says 85mph I'm doing a little over 75mph.

    Simple enough for you?

I disagree, If it is safe to move over to the middle lane, why wouldnt you move over over to let someone join, it is courtesy

If you leave space in front then it is easy for cars to filter in. Moving over just slows the traffic down behind you. You may believe that you are acting couteously to teh cars joining but you are not to the cars that you are slowing behind you.

That was true for old mechanical speedos.
Newer electronic ones are much more accurate. Mine agrees with my sat nav to 1mph at 70.

    True and false :D

The speedo on my 8 year old car is only 2mph out at 70mph. However I've had hire cars that were only a year or two old that were a good 10% out.

Not only that, but you're reinforcing the merging drivers belief that they have right of way.
I actually had a heated conversation with a driver with 18 years experience, he believed that those on the slip joining a faster road had right of way, it toook me ages to convince him otherwise but it would seem I wasted my time as it appears many other drivers also believe this.
In all honesty, if I can speed up/slow down or move over to assist the merging driver, I will, but sometimes it's not always practical and agree with the post further up that states it's the other driver that has to measure his speed so he can filter in.

Since when as breaking the law funny? When you are involved in an RTA where excessive speed was a contributory factor I guarantee you won't be laughing.

If, not when - it's no certainty ;)

Perhaps you should stay 'in the street' and leave the motorways to us ;)
