The A64M doesnt have sliproads going off both sides, only left im afraid, and to say to an inexperienced driver who gives a hoot is the wrong advice.

It does have a slip-road going off to the right and always has.

It's the A58 (M) Leeds inner ring road which has a slip road leading off the right hand lane - it takes you to Vicar Lane/North Street.

Leeds Inner ring road must also be one of the few roads which has a different number depending which carriageway you are on. Towards the gyratory it's the A64 (M), away from it it's the A58 (M).

Designed in the 60s by planners on too much pot!

If you proposed that road design to town planners today, you'd soon be hauled away men in white coats.

The junction from Kirkstall Road / West Street, under the tunnel emerging into a blind junction has to be the single biggest example of road design lunacy.

  • The safest lane on a motorway is the outside lane.
Unlike the inside lane, there are no lorries in the way.
Unlike the middle lane there are no slow moving lorries overtaking the ones in the inside lane, and you don't have to worry about another one pulling out,and not some muppet cutting in from the right.

Sit in the outside lane, only having to watch out for plod and cameras ........

It's not illegal, just not often advised. It is often necessary though due to drivers like the OP
Surely if OP is (by his own admission) marginally breaking the limit, no passing is necessary unless you want to massively break it?
I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!
