Its quite legal to undertake if the vehicle in front is turning right, its not legal to undertake because the driver in front isnt giong fast eough, and as there are no exits from this road turning right, then undertaking is an illegal prodcedure on this stretch of road .
The Highway Code is advisory. What would you be charged with exactly if caught undertaking?I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

There's no individual offence of undertaking. However, you'd be charged with careless driving under Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act. See CPS prosecution notes, in particular Section 5 clause 32 first bullet.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
Just keep out of the BMW lane ;o)))0

If you leave space in front then it is easy for cars to filter in. Moving over just slows the traffic down behind you. You may believe that you are acting couteously to teh cars joining but you are not to the cars that you are slowing behind you.
I did say if it is safe to do so! slowing down a car in the lane to ones right isnt safe. I dont get your point0 -

But it's not necessarily/automatically careless to be undertaking.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Sorry all but coming from the Isle of Man I have to say this:
1. What is a motorway or duel carraigeway?
2. What are speed limits?
I'll get my coat.
to op keep left untill its time to pull over into the right keep to the speed limit and dont give a flying duck about anybody behind you.0 -
I went on the exact roads and type you mention on my driving lessons, I even had to go on them and join from a slip road to a 70mph dual carriageway on my lessons and even the test itself (the one near Tesco Extra towards Leeds City Centre) - scared the hell out of me at the time, lol. The only bit that is classed as a motorway is the A64(M) (the most pointless motorway in the whole of the UK). It only becomes the (M) just after the junction where Quarry House is I believe.
You should probably only be in the right lane for gyratory just about where the slip road from the Yorkshire Evening Post building joins the main road. Oh and have you ever noticed everyone will overtake you and break the speed limit towards Armley, but they *ALL* get caught by the red lights at Mike's carpets and you can give them all a wave - makes me laugh every time.
In case it has not already been posted see the forums http://www.2passforum.co.uk0 -

Test it out for us.
A simple test you should be able to manage.
Next police car you see, undertake at 85mph, and post back.0 -

Only ever see them crawling in the left hand lane, but okay! :rotfl:
As an aside, I work with someone who is a magistrate and asked her about this. She said in 25 years of magistrating she's never had someone brought in for undertaking.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
