I think only boys are allowed to talk confidently about cars and roads.

    Test it out for us.

A simple test you should be able to manage.

Next police car you see, undertake at 85mph, and post back.

I undertook a police car yesterday as if happens. Urban motorway I was doing 60 they were doing approx 50.

The A64M doesnt have sliproads going off both sides, only left im afraid, and to say to an inexperienced driver who gives a hoot is the wrong advice.

It's the A58 (M) Leeds inner ring road which has a slip road leading off the right hand lane - it takes you to Vicar Lane/North Street.

Leeds Inner ring road must also be one of the few roads which has a different number depending which carriageway you are on. Towards the gyratory it's the A64 (M), away from it it's the A58 (M).

Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

It is quite amusing that when confronted with the CPS prosecution guidelines, people know better...

(edit : olly300, that wasn't aimed at you - you've highlighted the one situation where it is explicitly tolerated)
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

The Highway Code is advisory. What would you be charged with exactly if caught undertaking?

    It isn't advisory.

There are parts that are law:

Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence. An explanation of the abbreviations can be found in 'The road user and the law'.

You didn't say the traffic is queuing or there was congestion to your right.

However lots of people undertake when the lane is completely free due the driver in front of them not going fast enough even though they are driving at or above the speed limit.

Then there are those who tailgate because the driver in front of them just happens to be overtaking those on the left of them safely but not going at a fast enough speed for them even though they are driving at or above the speed limit.
