If someone has room to undertake you then it does make me wonder why you were in the right hand lane.

Whether you are allowed on that road before and during the test is besides the point, The highway code
which i presume you have read says KEEP LEFT. You are allowed to read that before or after lessons/test.

    Not whilst driving though.

And those of us with better than average cars regard the speed limit as only applicable to plebs and trolls. lol.

    KEEP LEFT.

AND... MY PET HATE.. If you on the inside lane of the motorway doing 50,60 or 70.. DO NOT MOVE OVER to let
slower vehicles join. Its upto them to join safely not for you to move over into the faster moving traffic.
Thats why they paint give way lines where the slip road joins.

I'm not being funny, but do you know how accurate your car's speedo is?

The reason I ask is that it could be understating your speed up to 10%.

Your speedo says 70mph but in reality you're doing 64mph, so it's perfectly possible that the speedo of the person behind you is showing 65mph because it's more accurate.

So please don't assume that the people overtaking when you're doing '70' are actually speeding, they might well not be.

That was true for old mechanical speedos.
Newer electronic ones are much more accurate. Mine agrees with my sat nav to 1mph at 70.

Out of the two cars I've driven this week they're both at least 7mph out at 70. One from 2007, one from 2010.

You seem very naive. When your car says you are doing 40mph, you're actually doing around 36mph. When you think you're doing 70mph, you're really doing around 63mph. So I can happily go up to 85mph readout on the motorway before risking points (76.5mph in reality). If you're doing 63, and I'm doing 75, it's not going to take much to overtake you!

Don't be so fixated on speed limits - they are outdated, unrealistic and as you've proven, driving at the speed limit doesn't make you a good or even a safe driver!

So are you if you think all cars under read by the same amount.

Yes, the OP should move over but your opinion on speed limits is just an opinion. As everyone has their own we have laws that dictate things like speed limits. Some of them I think are too low, others i think are too high(eg I think all roads outside schools should drop down one speed limit unless its already a 20mph).That just my opinion as well though, so I'll just have to try and keep as close the limit as my inaccurate speedo allows.

This is true to some extent. Both my current car and the previous had very accurate speedos. On the other hand the brand new hire car I was driving yesterday was miles out.

It's like the people who drive at 45 in a 60 zone no matter what the road condition, then when they encounter a 30 zone, they just sail through at the same speed [45]; without paying any attention to the road conditions or other users. All too common I am afraid.

    .

That is my pet hate, see it all the time in Norfolk, they are the worst drivers IMO as they are clueless.

I disagree, If it is safe to move over to the middle lane, why wouldnt you move over over to let someone join, it is courtesy

Agreee with this, it just shows complete lack of awereness of road type, peed limits, surroundings and other traffic on the road.I often get held up on NSL roads by some old dear in a Micra only to have them zoom off into the distance once we hit a 30mph zone.
