When people are joining it they are going slower than the speed limit (these slip roads are so short they are nearly blind so sometimes it's from a standing start) so I am overtaking in a way, and a few hundred yards down the road it will happen again. I compare it to being in the middle lane on a motorway and seeing a lorry further down that you know you're going to overtake soon so you stay in that lane rather than constantly weaving in and out. Don't know if I'm making sense.

Also the wrong thing to do. You overtake when you need to. You do not hog the middle lane because there is a lorry a mile and a half in the distance!

Stop driving until you've learned and understand the rules of the roads you are driving on. I trust your driving instructor is no longer in gainful employment?

So going over the speed limit and undertaking is more acceptable than getting in the right lane in good time before a very busy and messy junction? Ok. Fair enough. I'll stay where I belong always in the left hand lane and all the people to the right of me can do 100 mph for all I care! ;)

How am I hogging when I'm doing the speed limit? Who am I impeding?

Not the point. If there is a space to the left of you you should be in it (unless you are literally about to overtake something).

If you leave miles of the left lane empty, all of the traffic needs to be in the other lane(s) meaning everyone travels more slowly.

If you are anywhere right of where you could be, you are a hazard.

To be honest its a pretty common mistake. It really annoys me round here when idiots have to drive well under the speed limit in the right hand lane because they are turning right at a roundabout more than a mile away.

OP - you need to get into the habit of using the left hand lane - that is the proper technique end of story. I think you already know the answer to your original question and you are just looking for someone to agree with your warped interpretation of the rules of the road.

If there's enough time for the rest of Leeds to go past you on the inside, there's enough time for you to pull in, and pull out again when you need to.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is'nt it illigal to undertake?By that I mean forcing someone to pass a vehicle in the left lane caused by a driver hogging the right lane.
If it is then is'nt the OP by his actions encouraging other drivers to break the law?

By the very fact that people CAN undertake means you are in the wrong lane. End of.

It's not illegal, just not often advised. It is often necessary though due to drivers like the OP

That was a bit rude. I had a very good driving instructor and I will not have a word said against him.
Your driving instructor is a prat.

    There's a word against him...

OK I accept I've got a lot to learn- I've only passed my test a year ago and I've been very ill so haven't driven properly for a bit. I've lost a lot of confidence. The Leeds Inner Ring Road is not a typical road- there are blind sliproads and some people just pull out onto it right in front of you at speed and frankly I feel safer on the right hand side! I genuinely thought I was making the road safer by giving these people more space. And despite the 40mph speed limit people drive it at 70mph and above.

I'm willing to accept that I'm in the wrong- that's why I've posted here- for feedback, not insults! So many people drive in an insafe manner and don't question it. I'm questioning it. I'm looking at the way I drive and wanting to improve. I don't want to be a menace on the roads. I still don't understand why people feel the need to over/undertake someone doing the speed limit (you wouldn't do it on a single carriageway would you?) but I'm willing to accept that if that's their perogative, fine. I'm a strong advocate of taking another test after a year or having compulsary tuition- you learn to drive after passing the test- the learnings just car control and a few basics.
