OK, I understand this now but in money terms it means that I have to live on 8 days money from 11th August - 26th August.

So, if I am paid in arrears or not is irrelevant to me because the Government are forcing me to live on 8 days money over a 15 day period.

They are not forcing you...you have the option to live that way knowing that on the 26th August you will get the previous weeks money in that amount

    OR

Take an interest free loan and pay it over a generous 12 week period

I work out how much money I have to live on per week and the way the Government have introduced this change means that I will have to live on 8 days money over a 15 day period.

To be honest, I am not worried if it is paid in arrears or not, I am talking about money in my hand...how much I have to live on and survive to support my family!

Change happens love...get over it and stop looking for 'legal' arguments that aren't there.

fair enough about the budgeting irritation but thats not what you opened the thread for, you thought the government (ie me) was shortchanging you and stealing your money, they are not!

and its that which i cant understand why you cant understand the dates of your own pay, presumably you had to work this out when you were working with regards to pay etc, so treat this as the same, stay on top of dates and payment amounts to know whats going on

I thought Martin set this facility up so that people could ask for help, not so they could have the p1ss ripped out of them for not understanding something. No need for anybody to be rude to the OP.

i dont honestly think anyone was, i think there is incredulation that the OP cannot work this out. i also believe that the MSE ethos also involves taking personal responsiblity for being money literate

I have some sympathy - My DLA used to be paid fortnightly with my IB. The they changed to to 4 weekly which meant that I had one payment that was for one week only, instead of two, and then I had to wait four weeks for the next payment. It was difficult to budget that month, because I had money coming in later than normal

    BUT

Over the calendar month, my money was the same, it just came in later.

I think you will find that this is the same for you.

Unfortunately the fact is that the government is entitled to do this, so you just have to budget or accept the offer of the loan, unless you fall into one of the categories that remain entitled to weekly payments.

    Thank you for understanding.:)

if you dont want to take the interest free loan option why not ask your solicitor brother to help you out till you get used to your fortnightly benefit.

Why would I ask someone else for money when I have worked all my life until I had my accident?

Your post is not even relevant to the thread discussion!

I am perfectly able to budget my money. When I was in full -time work until my accident, I was paid monthly. From August, I will be receiving my money fortnightly, instead of weekly and will have to budget 8 day's money over a 15 day period, that is not difficult to work out. My question is why should I have to?

I think my point is relevant, the government has offered you an interest free loan to help ease the pain from switching from weekly to fortnightly pay. if you do not want to take this its up to you to manage your money. If you have difficulty understanding that you are not losing any money ring the benefits agency and ask them to explain it you.
