How do i get my cash back from " Energy Saving Group " when there web site has closed down , and there not answering the phone . You think that when someone you know of comes canvasing at your door on the 1/2/2011 offering solar panels for your house for £500.00 scheme, that your as safe as houses, Then when the installer also comes to do there survey and says that there able to get an extra panel on your roof, your going to make more savings. Then on the 10/8/2011 you recieve a letter through your door from the Energy Saving Group saying that "with deep regret and for reasons that are outside therecontrol they are no longer able to proceed with your application for solar panels under the £500.00 scheme." you know that your bit of savings, and hard earned money has been all for nothing and they`ve had your pants down. Then the anger sets in that you know your unlightly to get anything back at all. It`s the first and last time i`ll buy anything at the door.

    Welcome to the forum.

    See post #102 above!

Unless everyone complains they will get away with your money and the new business will carry on trading - with the same directors.
  • I'm as angry as everyone else! Post 102 suggests first complaining to Trading Standards but it appears that they will not do anything because Energy Saving Group has not officially been wound up. They say take private legal action but to do that as an individual would wipe out the £500 owed. It will only work with concerted action.

A action through the Small Claim process of the County Court would cost very little-but of course entirely pointless if there are no assets to recover.

Someone cannot just start a company, take hundreds of £500 deposits and have no consequences if his company stops trading.

Accounts have to be filed(albeit not audited) and if the directors have been found to have acted improperly, action can be taken against them - even if it is only barring them from being a director.

If your local trading standards office won't take up the case take it higher - involve your MP and the Police(just file a complaint and get acknowledgement)

  • I was cold called last week and agreed to see a 'surveyor' at home on Wed last. Norton Energy Solutions Limited. He calls himself an Energy Consultant on the forms.
The pitch was good and sounded fine (as you'd expect) and, as I say, I signed a few forms and was told that it wasn't binding until I got the agreed date for fitting. No money was asked for BUT; I did ask how come it's free when the Gov. had cut the service. He said that because of the cold weather, they (the Gov. ) had extended it.
Well I hadn't heard that but I'm well over 80 so I put it down to Annie Dominoes - again. Then my daughter rang to see how I was and I told her. Immediately her alarm bells rang. She is well known to be like a dog with a postman's leg once she gets started! The result is that she found this site and a couple of others which horrified me.
I then e mailed my local Trading Standards with the story and today someone rang and he's visiting me on Monday to check out the documentation but of course, no money has been asked for as yet, possibly 'cos I'm 80 plus. I shall still have 5 days left to cancel if I decide to. Of course, they may be quite straightforwrd and I'll go ahead. But, let's wait and see.

You should not pay anything for 'free' panels - not a bean.
  • Hi Cardew.
No I understand that. No money has been asked for and whatever happens, they won't get any. :j
I.m used to cold callers, people telling me I have problems with my computer. B...s I was a computer professional for years after retiring early from my day job in the NHS. I usually ask how they know because they would have to hack into my machine to get that info. Result; the dialling tone!
Easier way is to tell them to P... off and then just lay your phone down and hope you run their bill up a bit.

You may not have paid anything, but what have you signed up to? How do you know if you actually have any cooling off period? What does the small print say?
The 'surveyor' was not a surveyor, he was a salesman, and a lying one at that.
I cannot understand why people agree to buy anything on the basis of a cold call. Any reputable company will be more than happy to let you do your own research before agreeing to anything.
