I think i've finally confused myself (not hard I know, so stop sniggering brian!)

I signed up at JD Williams fully intending to use only my debit card to buy something and it tells me that I have £150 available to spend subject to further checks.

Have I been a complete and total t!t and signed up for credit rather than just an account type thing that keeps your details on file to make shopping faster?

Assuming I've gone down the t!t route, what are JD Williams like? Is it worth keeping regardless of it being a mistake and treating carefully like the cap one card or shall I cancel immediately?

And I know I sound like a complete idiot but I've just had an abcess drained in my face so I'm not up to speed today.

Thanks in advance everyone and huge smoochies
    :o

Soz it's not naughty Brian! Anyway, with JD Williams when you register to buy goods, it does say in the T&C's at the end about a credit search.
I did the same initially with Marisota, saw some nice trousers, got my debit card out, but came back with congrats you have this credit limit!

My limit now is £2000:eek: although don't use it much now, but they are fairly quick with delivery, online account management, been with them nearly 3 years.

Another thing, they can give you a credit limit, then you log on again and it has disappeared! I opened a Julipa account, and they gave me an initial £150 limit, then it disappeared and now it's £100.
If you are happy with the goods just buy them with your debit card.

    Thanks for the reply Bosie!

I was dead surprised when they said that I had a credit limit and figured I screwed up somewhere along the line when setting it up. I'm working on the assumption that they will change their minds any time now and tell me to get lost heh.

I only tried to set it up to get the personalised Hello Kitty bedset for my daughter (god knows why girls are so into that right now) and when I tried to pay on the 'my account' bit, it just says that although I placed an order, it hasn't been added to the account so I can't pay it with my debit card yet.

If (when!) they say no to an account with them, will I be able to order just using my card as normal like with amazon?

    Hi
All the comments about naughty Brian...mmm maybe I need a spanking :rotfl:
Anyway, Jd Williams, I have 4 accounts with them, 1 unused, all started at £125 limit or thereabouts, Fashion World was £150. Now I have around £3500 to spend
Use them wisely and limits increase quickly and report green zero's to all 3 CRA's so good for credit building.
Online payment system is brill, just add a card and pay a payment when statement drops.
Delivery is slow compared to Shop Direct but still normally within 7 days.
You will have already been credit searched at Experian so defo keep it and use whenever you think it is necessary.
You can use log in details for all other sites too, Velvet Affair has some LOVELY stuff!!!! :rotfl: Skimpy basques, uniforms. whips mmm BUY! BUY! BUY! :rotfl: Will HAPPILY pay your minimum payments :p

Also need to look for a new place to live pretty quick. Also when i do find i need to fully equip out the house as i have nothing of my own

Any new adverse information on your credit files in the last 3 months?

Barclaycard did the same with me, three weeks after my Sygma Silver account appeared on my credit file they reduced my limit to £750 (Well, £850, because I'd spent to over £750 between them making the decision and actually reducing the limit)...

Barclaycard are very strict when it comes to deciding how much they think a customer can afford to borrow in total.

Once you've not opened any new accounts for 6+ months you should be able to successfully apply for a credit limit increase but not before ;)

Well yes, too much credit elsewhere can be construed as "adverse".

Well yes of course, but Barclaycard are strict.

I.e. I was approved for my Barclaycard when I had a £250 Vanquis card and £350 aqua card.

I closed these two cards after having been given a £1,000 limit on my Silver card.

Within a month of all this updating on my credit file Barclaycard reduced my limit due to too much credit elsewhere. Despite the fact that all I had elsewhere was a £1,000 limit. So £2,250 total available credit on a net monthly income of £1,150 (Barclaycard have my salary as £17,5K). Not an alarming amount of credit available really is it?

    They're just stoopid strict!

Oh I don't blame Barclays at all for being cautiously responsible. They are still a self owned British bank and I think they want to keep it that way. They've seen Spain take over the UK market and the taxpayer take over the other half.

AFAIK Barclays are the only major (by which I mean having a branch in almost every town) British high street bank left that's standing on it's own two feet.

Yes, there's the Co-op and and one or two others but they are smaller. And then you have building societies like Nationwide, but they are not banks.

(Ah you know what I mean!)
