Only if you want paper statements as well as online access.

Oh I don't blame Barclays at all for being cautiously responsible. They are still a self owned British bank and I think they want to keep it that way. They've seen Spain take over the UK market and the taxpayer take over the other half.

AFAIK Barclays are the only major (by which I mean having a branch in almost every town) British high street bank left that's standing on it's own two feet.

Yes, there's the Co-op and and one or two others but they are smaller. And then you have building societies like Nationwide, but they are not banks.

(Ah you know what I mean!)

Well Barclay's did have to borrow money through the credit crisis. They borrowed money from the nice people in Abu Dhabi, because it was cheaper for them. I think only HSBC, Clydesdale, and Santander didn't borrow one way or another.

Just fully read the T&Cs now and noticed that, and that you can cancel eVanquis at any time to go back to receiving paper statements.
And now the eVanquis site's unavailable! :(

Used my HSBC Advance debit card at the pay by pump machine at Tesco today, obviously it's not a full auth and it's a 2 in 1 Visa without the CGC facility, which is good. :)

Well yes of course, but Barclaycard are strict.

I.e. I was approved for my Barclaycard when I had a £250 Vanquis card and £350 aqua card.

I closed these two cards after having been given a £1,000 limit on my Silver card.

Within a month of all this updating on my credit file Barclaycard reduced my limit due to too much credit elsewhere. Despite the fact that all I had elsewhere was a £1,000 limit. So £2,250 total available credit on a net monthly income of £1,150 (Barclaycard have my salary as £17,5K). Not an alarming amount of credit available really is it?

    They're just stoopid strict!

No Adverse on my file, But what is mentioned about is whats available might of been the problem.

Yes it does start 4659? My Barclays Connect starts 4658. My A&L starts 4659, I'm unsure if it makes a difference to be fair.

As best as I can make out, 4659 cards will work in places where there is a floor limit or where online authorisation is unavailable (eg like last weekend when the LINK system went wobbly for a couple of hours) and 4658 cards require an authorisation every time they're used and if the system is offline then the card will be declined.

Thankfully these incidents are rare these days so 99% of the time you wouldn't tell the difference between the cards (which is as it should be).
