I've noticed when I drive an old shed covered in bumps, dents, scrapes and scratches, I can park/dump it anywhere and it'll never get any marks on it whatsoever. Yet when I park a decent car, 9 times out 10 I'll come back to find a scratch or worse!

So how did people manage for all the years before these spaces started appearing?

And I'm happily shacked up thank you :)

Hmm well for starters people back then had far more respect for each others property. Secondly they never had nice cars like we do these days and didn't have to worry quite so much about the damage costs like they are now.
Lol 'shacked up'.. says it all!!

Even more reason for giving oneself as much room as possible then :)

Says it all - how so?

Maneuver half way into parking space, open door, extract child, finish parking.

Worked fine when I was a kid and P&C spaces hadn't been invented yet. Worked fine when I was a teenager and had to help extract a 1yr old brother.

    Failing that buy a Peugeot 1007 :)

I don't park in P&C spaces but really if you can't park in a normal space and get yourself and your family out without damaging other people's property then you really should reconsider your choice of transport method. (perhaps to a narrower vehicle, or perhaps to public transport)

Yeah i am sure the 1.5 yr old twins i had yesterday would have loved that and the toddler who is 4 would have quite happily stood there on the side of the rd waiting for me to park??!!..anyway me personally i don't have to do that as can park fine, the point of this thread is the fact that some people just don't care what they damage.

If they're able to walk about on their own then you're less likely to do any damage and have even less excuse for doing so. I was referring to when you have to extract them in one of those little baby carrier things which add a lot of bulk to the process and faff about with prams and pushchairs.

It just annoys me as that excuse is usually deployed by drivers of unnecessarily huge vehicles (and who seem to have previously only driven a Nissan Micra on L plates). I can't remember what cars I was ferried about in as a kid but my little brother somehow managed to survive being ferried about in an old Citroen BX until way after he was able to get out on his own, and we never smashed it's doors into anyone's car out of jealousy or incompetence.

For the record a space with a BMW X5, Kia Sportage or similar with child seats next to it is a definite "never park here", not even for 5 minutes.

No, it just makes life easier :)

And that Harry is the problem, too many people, you included by the tone of your post, who can't care less about anyone else :(:(:(

Hmm the younger 2 can walk..just! i was replying to the bit that said 'drop them off then park'??! I have an MG 3 door car so a small car but having 3 doors does make it arkward for parking in tight spaces..i still make sure i do not damage others cars and of course our own!

Harry Flashman as cyclonebri1 said in a word selfish ..not something to be really proud of really!

If you can manage it without damaging other people's cars then my comments are not aimed at you.

As you say a 3 door car has bigger doors that need to stick out further to provide the same sort of gap, plus you probably need to open them further if you're trying to get them out of the back seat.

In a way this kind of proves my point, if you can do that with a 3 door car why do some people still need to damage other people's cars to extract their kids from the back of a 5 door Daewoo Matiz? Selfish and incompetent.

Too dam true, selfishness, sod everybody else. What an attitude in a so called civilised country.

    A standing joke;

I have just backed into your car in the car park
Loads of people saw me do it
Therefore I am leaving this note on your windscreen
They think it is my contact details
    F****n mugs them
You can forget it I am long gone byeeeeee

    Believable isn't it.:D
