Have had the most awesome day!

Post came with DVDs from courgette - thank you so much love, can't wait to try them - am still thinking week 12 best to start rather than now? I also had belated birthday presents for me + DD from dear friend :).

Met up with one of DD's friends + mum, both of whom are lovely. Went to the foundling museum, they had a hetty feather day. There was a talk with DD's favourite author - jacqueline wil$on - which sold out ages ago :(, but we did a trail, activities - and then the fire alarm went off! So outside we all go and notice the author herself! She took herself away to a quieter part of the park though. After a packed lunch on a bench, the girls plucked up the courage to ask v politely to have a photo - which she agreed to. DD is over the moon to have met and have a photo with her favourite author!!!
Then we went to a reading of her new book, sapphire battersea, but had to leave for the talk itself. After a play in coram's fields, we came back for the free prize draw. And then DD won one of the main prizes - a copy of sapphire battersea signed by Jaqueline wil$on AND Nick Sharratt!! She went to collect, and Wilson said - aren't you the polite girl who came to talk to me earlier in the park? My name was then pulled out of the box - so I said DD's friend could go pick a prize. And then DD's friend got picked out herself!! Who Wilson also remembered. By then I was trying to avoid eye contact with all the glowering parents :rotfl:!

Was great to spend time with DD's friend + mum, they really are a lovely family.

We took a packed lunch; £10 spent on drinks from cafe plus snacks. Even then I was sooo hungry I had to buy a pizza on way home and cook it at friend's house! (had to pop over to feed friend's cat).

Total spent today, including entry: £17. Result: one ecstatic DD, and one book she will keep forever (talking about buying a glass box for it - clearly a mini-museumworker :rotfl:). It is days like this that I love being a parent!

OH now left for China, am absolutely knackered after a full day out of the house. We're in our pajamas, reading in my bed with the electric blanket on. Might watch some of kirstys craft once dd goes to bed, and then crash out. Hope everyone else had a good saturday.

p.s. I also spent 50p on a newborn size yellow handknit cardigan ;)

That sounds like one of the best days ever. I LOVE that part of London. Hope that the China time passes quickly and everything continues calm and good.

OH !!!!!!!!!! Just checked with home insurers, although I had called to tell them when the work started, they hadn't calculated the premium based on our now 5 bedroom house. I also asked if our lodger was covered by the insurance - which she isn't, and they won't include her, she has to get her own. We've just had to pay another £158 (:eek::eek:) to cover our larger/lodging house, and I have to tell her about the insurance (which I said would be fine), so I feel crappy about that too. It will probably be about £15-20 a month for her, do you think I'm being reasonable in assuming she will sort it out herself?

ps did a few comparisons online, and for the cover we are getting and our low excess, it is the best deal (even at over £600pa!!)

I was a lodger / tenant for years and would never have expected my landlord / lady to cover my insurance... I never really had insurance because I didn't own a huge amount.

However having said it would be fine, you might find it's now a case of mis-matched expectations.... :(

I agree, as she's a friend you may want to say as good will you will pay for the insurance for X months but after that she will have to pay for it herself.

Could be worth suggesting it to avoid 'upsetness'. I'd be fully understanding if it were me but I'd still appreciate the goodwill gesture even as I declined your offer and paid it fully myself.

Had hoped to talk to housemate last night, but she brought fella back and I am feeling dreadful at the minute so there wasn't really the time to do it. I think I will email her today (if I can bring myself to), as I have no idea whether she is in this evening and I don't want to leave it too long. I think we will offer to pay the first couple of months, just to stop me feeling guilty.

Feeling hot and cold, upset tummy - DD has sore throat (enlarged tonsils), so it is a double duvet day in the MW house. I have been a bit strung out all week to be honest so I think it is just my body forcing me to take a rest.

£22.77 OP made today from tcb and ama$on sales :D.

I think I am worse than I realise as have just had hours nap, stomach still upset and after lunch had a massive sweat on! Lunch was veg and lentil soup, the first time I have made one in the slow cooker, and without a recipe too (I normally HAVE to follow a recipe). It was really good, only had some fennel seeds in for flavouring too. DD loved it as well and only took 5 mins to prep whilst I was making porridge.

Am meant to be going to sheffield this weekend, hope will be better as booked a hotel and trains. Can anyone recommend anything to do there?

  • I used to live in Sheffield as a student. Depends what you want to do.

In the city center, I would go and see the Peace Garden and the fountains, and i know there is a huge John Lewis with allkinds in that I like walking round. The Winter garden is attached to an art gallery bit which is good for a browse.

There is the Walker Gallery too.

The botannical gardens are nice, but they are quite out of the center just off Eccleshall road, and I like the Weston Park and museum near the University of Sheffield.

I always used to like browsing around the forum shopping center as there was some unusual stuff there.

Hope that gives you some ideas.
