museumworker's quest to consign mortgage to history!

mw, I made a right mistake this week - my boss was hopping mad
We all have funny 5 mins sometimes. You can't take the money with you when you go so I wouldn't worry too much (Please don't let Martin hear me say that
)
I also prefer to keep work very separate from MSE - hence things like not using my real name as a log in and never using my first name - I feel safer being known as katsu here, as I feel less likely to be "unmasked"... then my DM found me!Debt at highest: £8k. I have had two big crying sessions already - the first for losing some tickets I'd already paid for (OH found them), and the second because I put OH's mobile through the washing machine. I am such a !!!!ing idiot sometimes!!! This mistake will cost us about £160. Feeling a bit low so planning a quiet day at home. Hope you are well.
Things are good with me thanks. Got a lot going on, but think perhaps I'll update my very much abandoned diary with that this weekend!
I hope the rest of the first trimester goes quickly for you so you can get to the better phase! If it makes you feel any better I'm not even pregnant and I get myself into a tizzy about things like that quite a lot.
Sorry to hear about the phone - my friend managed to put her iphone through the wash a few months ago and managed to buy a replacement reconditioned one from O2, so perhaps you might be able to do something like that?

You might find it's worth just letting the phone dry out? Unless they've actually shorted, electronics can get wet and then revive. I once dropped a glass of water down the back of a TV set and it was fine!Borrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

Hi mw, if it makes you feel any better i have washed dh's classic I pod, ds 2's nano , ds2's mobile , and last year dh went swimming on holiday with his new contract phone and then came home a week later and put a bottle of water in a carrier bag with his (new replacement) Ipod and ruined it . Now that lot takes some beating !
Anyway hope you are feeling better.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Thanks everyone for making me feel a bit better about my mishap yesterday - especially newgirly. I :rotfl: when I read that - I really hope I don't beat that record though!
It cost £160 for a replacement phone, OH is off to China end of the week so couldn't take the chance it wouldn't work and then be in a rush to sort it out. I am trying to dry it out, and will give it a go in a few days. Not very hopeful, but fingers crossed. We spent £125 on friday night , and OH made some shelves for the craft room yesterday in an attempt to gain some floor space from the books invasion! (£75). What with £75 in childcare this week, and a £70 petrol top up, we have had to take £400 out of savings. Feeling a bit of an mse failure this weekend!
Started a DIY paint by numbers kit yesterday I have had for years, bought in a staff sample sale. Only two colours done so far but looks great, and was lovely to sit in the living room doing it yesterday afternoon, with the sun streaming in and radio 4 on in the background. I need many more days like that.
rachel - will look out for an update on your diary for your news; glad you're well.
Today we picked up DD from her dad's, and took her to whipsnade zoo. Some of you may remember I bought a grabbit last winter, which was a free zoo ticket with a £4 in the sale cuddly toy. I bought three of them, and so today we set off with our tickets. A great day for it - sunny but not too busy at all. Caught a few of the animal shows, DD got to handle lots of insects (yuck!), and we got to see most of the animals. It is an absolutely MASSIVE site, so walking round was quite exhausting. But we all really enjoyed it, DD gave it 10/10 and said it was much better than she was expecting! Was great to have a proper family day out, just the three of us, especially before OH goes away. DD spent £5 of her own pocket money on a souvenir, and we spent about £8.50 on lunch stuff to take with us, plus petrol.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Sounds like a very MSE and fun day out mw. Try to appreciate yourself for the good days and forget about the phone-washing ones. I found that my brain turned to much in the first trimester and I was messing up things I could be relied on to do perfectly before. It was really weird but it seems to have sorted itself out in the second trimester so hang in there.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

My super-efficient, careful, clever, everything else best friend crashed her car three times in her first trimester! Thankfully no one hurt.
Pregnancy: absolutely ridiculous! :rotfl:
I'm hanging on now until I receive the postage label thingy before I post out the DVDs. I've retrieved them from the storage unit now though so you should have them by the end of the week.Updating soon...0 -
After hearing that courgette, I'm really glad I don't drive :rotfl:! I finally got round to posting you the mailing label yesterday - forgot friday, out of office monday, wrote it tuesday, found it in my bag to be posted yesterday
... I think it is pregnancy hormones! I am feeling quite tearful at the minute, and a little down which is odd as I am so happy about the situation. OH is going to China for work on Saturday and feel not very happy about that. On previous trips I can feel a bit resentful that he is leaving me to do everything, but this time I will just miss him
. Glad to hear it will pass mouche, having been through this once before you think I'd be a dab hand at it, but no, it all feels new to me.
Saw doctor yesterday - didn't check I was pregnant as apparently don't do urine tests anymore - but referred me to the local hospital maternity service. Looking forward to hearing from them and having my scan date.
£25.14 OP made today from Ama$on sales. We have however had to renew car and home insurance this week, so there is £1300 gone :eek:! OH did the looking around into the car insurance, I had a bit of a fail on the home insurance front, and just went for a straightforward renewal (it had expired already!!!). I did do a lot of comparison work on it last year, and although it was a tad more expensive the cover was a lot better than the cheaper ones. I have diarised next years renewal now, must try harder!
Peonie - definitely plan to up our savings, to cover all future possibilities when bean arrives. OH is now putting £160 pm into work share schemes, and I'm putting £300 into FD 8% savings. Our savings have dipped now to £2,900 due to all expenses, paying the builders etc, so think OPs will not be as good as I was hoping for at this point in the year as we want to get back up to the magic £5k amount in instant cash.
Need to get back into MS frame of mind. To do over next 5 days:
