Unfortunately my 'investigative' years working in a police department finding holes in people's stories and piecing the puzzle together in various situations still is very much a part of who I am.

Yes Trinity, we all do have our own opinion -which is a good thing really. I just find it amusing that when people are hard up for money, the automatic question is 'how do I get more benefits' etc., rather than 'how do I increase my income.....working hours.....etc.' as that would be the first thing to come to my mind - always has been. Go figure eh?

Enjoy your evening and your lack of the Lambrini while you sit there in your non Primark/JJB loungewear....(another thing I hadn't considered what type of clothing you cared to wear......lol).
Could you please go and investigate this thread and highlight where i have asked how i can get more money?

My question was and still is does anyone know how long does it take for a claim to be sorted, purely because i do not want to get into arrears with my rent and lose the roof over my childrens heads!
I am not in it for the money at all and as soon as my partner goes back to work we will get nothing at all as far as benefits go, so mrs plod if you think your clever please tell me where i have suggested i want more money off the government.

She's already stated her situation, she's only recently considered him her 'partner' again. There is no relevant reason to disbelieve her.

So, now they are set upon being a 'couple' again, they want to move in together and become officially a couple for benefits purposes.

I don't see anything wrong with that in the factual sense.

Everyone is entitled to a life, and not all relationships need be declared for benefits purposes the very instant they begin. Even the benefits agencies accept that single people can embark upon relationships for a period of time, before they are recognised as a "couple" (i.e. living together as if they are married, etc etc)..[/QUOTE

Im getting worried now - I find myself agreeing with you again!

It happens to most people eventually ;)
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.

Yeah but OP's partner only has 1 of the kids living with him so even though technically he/she's the oldest they are still the only kid living in a single parent household?

well you were wrong wasnt you because if that was the case we'd have another 2 years before he'd have to go onto jsa, and when we claim together we will be on jsa, and you make out we claim separately but live together, he lives 25 miles away we see each other weekends, we do not live a life of luxury, we do not do anything we aren't meant to do, and here you are with your sarcastic remarks about our son who has adhd, we could if we wanted to screw the government go for dla but we dont want that as we know many people who deserve it but dont get it, we are not criminals we just want to do things in the right manner without causing any more stress than nessercary, where is the wrong in that?
As for me calming down, im a mother, im very defensive of my children, i suppose that makes me a bad person to in your eyes eh?

I would just like to say that I find the attitude of some people pompous towards the OP.

I am no fan of the benefits culture(as Deepmistrust can testify!) but I find your personal attacks a bit too much. I give her credit for going
'legit' as she puts it. There are many benefit scroungers out there I agree but some are genuine due to illness and lack of work opportunities
especially in certain areas of the country.

She asked for advice not judgement. The system has to be partly to blame for our benefits culture as it is today.

Simply two unemployeds, sharing living arrangements with their own children, deciding to move in together 'officially'........and the variation of what Morgan Ree has pointed out - depending on the age of your eldest child could've meant a reduction in benefits for the father, etc. etc. etc., all points to 'getting more benefits' from where I'm at.

I don't recall saying 'I'm so clever', but I'm not a sucker either, and sometimes to understand somebody you have to ask questions, which you get all rude and arrogant about. Remember, you created your original post, you typed it the way it came across. So when people ask for clarification, or further information - instead of jumping down their throats, maybe remember that people are here to help where help is needed, and if you're not prepared to be polite to them, then go to hell and wait your turn at the job centre to ask :) Nighty nights

Except claim to be single when you're actually a couple.
Who cares if you only see him at weekends!! I haven't seen my OH in 3 months but that doesn't make me single does it

As for the defensive remarks about your son.
You felt the need to mention ADHD. Why? Sympathy vote maybe?
It's just another thing to go along with 'poor me my mum threw me into childcare when i was a baby'
