Hi All,
I just wondered whether some unemployed people actually want to work? I've recently been looking for specific tradesmen (or women) to work on short term contracts on a building site, which is the usual way of working for self employed contractors. After placing an advert on the jobcentre plus website I received about 10 applicants who were suitable via email. However, on attempting to contact them to discuss terms and start dates, 4 of them have disappeared from the face of the earth! They haven't replied to my emails or answered their phones! The ones that I did manage to communicate with suddenly became unavailable and had other jobs/work! All of these people were contacted on the day they applied, sometimes within minutes!
So, what the hell's going on? I can understand something cropping up on the odd occasion but there is a clear pattern here. I'm offering work for £500-700 per week. Surely, benefits can't be as good as that, can they? Do claimants still have to prove that they are applying for jobs? Do email applications count as proof? I wish there was something I could do to expose these time wasters - may be they would get their benefits stopped so that they got off their backsides!!!
Anyway - rant over!

Have you tried to contact Job Centreplus to tell them that you've offered these people jobs in case they come in to sign on then they know that they could well have no intention at all of working.
I had to give up work a couple of years ago because of illness and as soon as I was fit enough to go back to work and my consultant signed me off I would have done pretty much any job offered me just to get back to work and having some money in my pocket each month again. It really winds me up with these people who have no intention of getting a job.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
All those that replied to your advert report them to the job centre. Benefits in this country must be scrapped to the bare minimum.
Why do you think the Labour party scum were importing another working class whilst keeping this countries work shy in benefits? It didn't work for them did it?
I have been on the dole 20 odd years ago and hopefully never again. But i still say scrap the benefits to the bare minimum such has 50p per day. If they want money for nothing start doing some community service to earn it, such has cutting elderly peoples grass, cleaning graffiti, sweeping the streets of a town centre first thing on a Sunday morning and a whole myriad of other things instead of watching Jeremy Kyle of a morning (if they are awake).
before people start screaming i'm a benefits denying Nazi, take a look around you. Some people have no intention of working. They would have to for the minimum wage if i had the power to do it.
I know people are going to moan it wasn't my fault i lost my job, i know it wasn't. What i am getting at is the permanent work shy who should receive the absolutely minimum to survive and that's it. For some even that's too much. How can they drink in the pubs all day? Let's face it we all see it day to day of people screwing the system. Let's screw them for a change and force them to work........or starve.
I cannot wait till benefits are scrapped to concentrate peoples minds to get a job. If you want to work, you will. Also only pay child benefit for the first born and then that's it. If some people want half a dozen kids then let them pay for them, not the state.
Oh i could go on.0 -
Where are you going to get the staff now that the Poles have gone? Where are the staff going to come from for the NHS?
Open the borders since, clearly there is a shortage. Or is there?0 -
It might have been because it's a short term contract so they would have to sign off and then resign on (I think) which can take some time.
My housemate who is an exceptional all round builder is looking for work and can't find it for love nor money. He does not sign on and takes whatever comes along (Which is not much at the moment)0 -
Looks like I've stirred up a hornets nest! Glad to see that others out there think that the benefits system is a joke as well!
I could report the names to the job centre but I think I'll be wasting my time - you won't believe how difficult it was for me to get the correct number to place a job advert - that's a rant for another day!0 -

I agree but this is usual practice for subbies

I posted on lots of trades forums and received one genuine enquiry for the job which I find totally bizarre as they are full of guys whinging about the lack of work. I hope your mate finds what he his looking for - there must be lots of decent workers out there. They are not very easy to find though, in my experience.0 -
