What do you use to strip it down? And the chances are the OP doesn't have a license for XP anyway. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Didnt think about licencing, Doh!.
It was on a stick my manager gave me when i started there last year, when i looked into it, it basically looks like all accessories, games, non essential programs and resources where removed and then the registry ect was manually sorted, its been quite handy keeping a copy though.
I know there are pre-stripped versions available out there though.0 -
According to UbuntuWiki the Dell Mini 10 Wifi should work although the Inspiron 1012 version appears to need manual adjustment (suggestions supplied). Have a look here. My somewhat older Dell lappie's WiFi didn't want to play until 9.10 emerged when chipset support seems to have been widened considerably. I'd persevere if I was you. I couldn't wait to be finally free of Windoze - stripped down version or not.My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
And people wonder why more people don't use Linux whilst proclaiming how it 'just works'. Not a dig at anyone in this thread.
Linux will NEVER be a serious alternative to the average PC user when there are problems like this in a major Linux distribution.0 -

Hehe he's spot on though. It's not a problem with Linux as such, more hardware manufacturers' support of linux, but it boils down to the same thing. You're pretty restricted in what hardware will or won't work well with linux. IF you plan it well and buy hardware with good support, it's great. If you don't, you'll be left pulling your hair out, where a windows install would just work. And that's what most people want, for it to just work. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

The crazy thing is when i bought this web book from dell it had a small version of Ubuntu on it, which basically was c**p so i upgraded, which was the start of my problems as the wifi did not work, now i have upgraded to the very latest version of ubuntu and it still does not work, so i ask myself what is different to the original version to the brand new updated version.
Plus if you cannot upgrade ubuntu what is the point !!!!
The thing is i am not techie minded, but have followed all the instruction and tips people have given me but with no avail.
There must be someone out there that knows the answer !!!0 -
