Im in the same boat. Id infoormed them on 25th of may that partner had moved in so single claim stopped, fair enough. It took me to the 16th June to get my new claim forms back despite them saying it had been sent out on the 25th of may. I sent them back on 17th june by recorded delivery, called up yesterday 21st june to see if theyd recieved my forms but it wasnt on the system but the guy telt me that the aim to have it all through in 3 weeks and sometimes less. Its very frustrating not having it but in a good way its stopped me spending what i dont have.0

If they give you the benefits because it's meant to bring you up to the minimum living standards, then how can they just take it away for 6 weeks and expect you to just manage? Seems stupid really!9/70lbs to lose

You're not 'adding a name' to a claim or changing the circumstances on your claim, you are making a brand new claim. These things take time to process because there are rules and regulations that need to be followed, checks that need to be made, etc. It's not as simple as you think HMRC have to do things by the book and stay within the law when processing your NEW CLAIM.0

stinks dont it. i'm in the same boat. ive just received my new claim form today after a wait of 8 days and they told me it takes anything up to 3 weeks to sort out once they receive the form back. i'm holding off sending it til friday so i can send it recorded delivery, so they cant turn round in 2 weeks and say they never received it.
we have to manage on my partners minimum wage and child benefit to feed 4 of us, pay bills, rent etc...
it'll be tight, but look on the bright side, nice back payment at the end of it.0 -
Like you said earlier, it's no wonder people just don't update them..!
On the other side of the coin, I rang them 3 times in April to say I was earning too much for working tax credits now and could they please stop paying me. They carried on paying and now that I got made redundant it has come in handy, but I guess it's an interest free loan for now huh.
Can't win..!
Now that you are redundant and not in any form of employment - have you notified them to cancel the Tax Credit claim?
You cannot claim when you do not have employment for at least 16 hours per week!!0 -
After talking with you guys on here, whilst perusing pay day loan sites trying to fathom how to get through the next six weeks and feeling rather ill, and having a bit of a tiff with my partner because he said I was daft for telling the tax credits peeps in the first place, I thought writing to my MP might be worth a shot, so I did, and he replied same day (arrived in post this morning) saying he's been in touch with tax credits and asked them to explain these 'serious problems' (the delays when changing circs) and to push my case along quickly.... we'll see if it has any affect.
Let you know how it goes xx
(and dont worry I'm not going off to get a payday loan I spent too long getting out of debt to fall back in at first glitch )LegalBeagles0 -
Don't hold out too much hope over the MP intervention these day-'most govt don't seem to be very bothered these days that an MP has become involved! Unfortunately you are making a new claim during one of the busiest CTC periods of the year (everyone returning their forms.) I was told 6 weeks when I went from a couple to a single claim in February 2008, was told it would take 6 weeks but it took less than 2. You may be lucky too, but these departments are traditionally understaffed and as I said, you have unfortunately/unwittingly chosen a busy time to claim.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
