Royal Mail £1 Handling fee.

Happened to me a few years ago when the in-laws sent an envelope which was 1p under, and I received a demand for £1.01.
I was quite annoyed at the time, in particular that I had to go all the way to the sorting office, not realising that there are other options to get it delivered.
I suppose I can see it from both sides now, but it did seem rather petty at the time, and the guy at the sorting office seemed to think so too as he said I didn't have to pay it for just a penny, without me saying anything.
Actually, I have actually saved a lot of money as a result. I gave the postmen a total of £10 in Xmas tips the Christmas before, but withheld it that year and indeed every year since!0 -
I do understand the handling fee required for underpaid items, but in the following instance I feel the fee to be unfair and excessive:
At my office, due to a rate card not updating our machine, 118 items were sent (at the same time, in the same bag) underpaid by £0.02 pence, which in total is £2.36. On top of that £2.36 we have been charged £1 for each item, making a total of £118.00 handling fees. That's obscene! Charging us a fee for the extra administration caused, yes, charging us £118? A bit much I think, it's not as if they were all sent and picked out separately, and 118 letters were not sent to us, just the one. Charging us a fee is understandable, but this fee on the basis of one (it was really one mistake) is over the top.0 -

Did you send those 118 items to one address?0
