The time & thus money spent on:
Filling in the form
returning it to the depot
putting it on a shelf
the guy working behind the counter when you come to collect it
and the overheads of the building the shelf & counter are in
did it magically go from the post box to that office?
on its magical route is was carried by elves who checked its weight/size and marked it accordingly
while they were at it they made a note in the magic spell book of accounts for that office
they will return and do the same in 3 weeks for the unlcaimed ones?0 -
I had this a while ago, not knowing what the letter was I went and paid. I then rang the sender and had a major rant (I was having a bad day and it was a nursery school brochure, I told them if they couldn't get something so simple right there was no way I was placing my daughter in their care! Ooops).
Anyway they sent me the £1.14 I had, had to pay as 'compensation' lol!
Perhaps you could ask to see the letter to see if you can work out who its from before you pay?
What is the £1 handling fee for, it's not as if they have to do anymore work than if they are unable to deliver something that requires a signature! All money making IMO
charge mail is removed from them mail stream at the mail centres
from there it is manually handled so that doesnt cost more?
how much do you get paid an hour?
revenue protection is a seperate dept,so would you have RM pay for that from its regulated stamp prices?
next time someone posts about how RM should be privitised(and it will be) then you can tell them it shouldnt be as they make a fortune from the charge items0 -
Decided not going to pay this time round so it can go back to the sender.
Thanks for your replies.0 -
It is not RMs fault if the sender fails to pay the correct postage. £1 is hardly worth arguing about. I am more concerned with the time wasted having to go collect the item. My time is worth more to me.
There is no need to go to the post office. You can pay the fee online, then RM deliver the letter as normal.0 -
From this, it appaers there is two Options
1 Pay the fee and recieve said.
2 Do not pay and sender gets it back?
Freddie would use option 20 -
Royal Mail, the last bargain left on earth, and somebody moans about a £1 surcharge because somebody couldn't follow some simple guidelines?

no,you just dont do anything
out of date charges are culled every 3 weeks
theres no incentive for the delivery office to go and find one charge that someone doesnt want
also not the forst time ive had someone say they dont want it,then come back later and say they do!0 -

Wasn't having a dig, but I just don't see how that process (correct me if I'm wrong) differs from that of an item that requires a signature from someone that isn't home? As far as I'm aware, if I have to collect an item from the post office because I wasn't home I don't have to pay a fee for collecting it?! Therefore I still believe it's a money making excercise!Started comping again Sept 2013
Best wins: Currys wishlist, 3 Laptop's, a PS4 and an Espresso machine • fridge freezer • £100 M&S vouchers
46 wins totalling approx £3000 since September 2013.•* Thank you to everyone that posts competitions*•.:A0 -
