Depends on the nature of the relationship - whether it was as an employee or as a subcontractor. With the later, you are stuffed...

paid weekly into bank no official payslip just an envelope with an unofficial bonus in - all info ie national ins etc written on envelope but envelopes not kept!!

Sending you best wishes I'm sure your husband will find another job quickley.

Don't want to worry you but my husband was paid like this by his last employer. When he left and got another job he didn't get a P45. He was told by his employer that all tax and insurance was being paid for him but when he started his new job we got a leter from the tax office that said no tax had been paid. It seems that he had paid no tax or national insurance for the four years he had worked there. We produced the wage packets for the tax man with the hand written amounts on The tax office contacted his ex boss who said he had written that on there so my husband would know how much to declare and insisted he was self-employed. We of course couldn't prove otherwise and had to pay back four years tax.
Please make sure he gets his P45 and check it looks ok

    Best wishes to you both:grouphug:

  • he wasnt self employed but his boss is urging him to do this as from tomorrow by completing the relevant paperwork im guessing he wants him to do this as it would invalidate any redundancy claim?

What a crock:eek: he turns off an employee after 16 years, tells him no redundancy and then tries to swindle him out of his benefits - looks like this is a blessing in disguise cos this fella certainly ain't worth working for.

We are all sending out our thoughts to you and know that you will get through this. Visit all the places you have been told to and don't let your OH sign anything at work.

Things are messy but he is ENTITLED to his P45, holiday pay owing and redundancy. Keep your chin up things are looking better since your first post when you weren't sure he was entitled to anything.
