Thank you all for your thoughts, just to let you know he crossed over the bridge at 3.40ish. I can't believe how calm I feel, I have been a nightmare for the last two days.
It was so peaceful, he just lay down and looked like he was pretending to be asleep like he does but still listening and watching everything you do. I think that made it easier to bear. Anyway must go as starting to cry again.
Thank you all again for your lovely words and thoughts and prayers, I have had so much support from everyone on here (my virtual friends) and from my friends and family in the real life, they really have been much appreciated, I will try to stay in touch I still have several tropical fish and OH is talking about breeding quails?!? so shall probably be on here looking for advise on those things.

aww sorry to hear of your loss, its a hard thing to do, but you made the right decision, he is not in pain now. Im getting to this stage with my elderly cat (19) she is wobbly on her legs and had a few health problems, but she keeps going.
