splot - That's very interesting indeed. I have to say that, until the seller admitted it to me when I asked where my items where, I had no idea that the she was selling on behalf of a company - if I had done so, I wouldn't have touched the auctions with a bargepole. These companies have a real tendency to exploit people and scam them.0 -

Having done some research using information from the website listed, companies house indicates that the business is going to be struck off presumably for not submitting accounts.
Its going to be struck off for not submitting a return.
Its basically a list of shareholders & the names of directors & signed by the company secretary.
It is a basic form which takes 2 minutes & costs only a few quid.
No excuse for it to be late.
The company is an off the shelf company incorporated by a seller & then bought by the owners in Jan 2009.
It doesn't have to file accounts until October 2010.
Not that it makes any difference because if they can send in a form that takes 2 mins & costs next to nothing they aren't going to submit accounts that cost in excess of £500 upwards....Not Again0 -
I think I'm actually inclined to believe the seller on this one.
There is a scam (think a victim of it has posted on here about it before) where the scammer recruits people with good feedback to sell items on their behalf. Basically, the line is "we're a new company, no feedback, need people with good feedback to sell for us, you get 10% of the profit".
Once the seller has sold a few items and got their 10%, they build a trust with the scammer, who is then able to encourage them to list more things. At that point, the scammer takes all the money, cuts of contact with the seller, and the seller is left with the problem of refunding people out of their own pocket, destroying their feedback etc.
Sounds to me like this scam fits what the OP (and seller) has been describing so far. Doesn't really matter to the OP though - their contract is with the seller, and they need to pursue their claim in the normal way. Sounds like the seller could also be a victim though - wonder if the OP should point the seller to these forums for some advice?
Of course, all that said, could just be that the seller is a scammer...0 -
jad - That's pretty much what I think. I think the seller is very likely to be the victim of a scam. Obviously, people can pretend to be nice and genuine, but I get the feeling that she is actually being honest with me.
Time will tell, and I may be wrong, so I'm thankful to everyone who encouraged me to open the disputes in order to cover myself. After I (hopefully!) get my money back, I'd be inclined to maybe point the seller in this direction and hope that someone can help her to get some justice from these scammers, too.0 -
Hi I am a top rated seller on ebay and I have had a few emails and even one message on ebays system asking me to sell on products for a third party.
I ignored all requests and reported them to ebay as this is the newest and in my opinion the most heartless scam going on on ebay now.
First you get a seller that has worked hard to build a good account on ebay and have them sell your items for you and give them 10%.
Next play fair and send the items untill a few big orders are placed for say a couple of thousand pounds worth of goods over few buyers.
Now you have orders for a few thousand pounds with that seller drop them in it by not sending their buyers anything and as the poor seller got the money paid into their paypal account you will not recieve any come back they will.
Lastly take all the money earned from this and from a few other sellers you have conned and close the company and keep all the money for yourself.
OP you should have not problem getting your money back from paypal just keep the dispute open and then when you can escalate the dispute to a claim.
I do not normally write anything in capitals and bold but this time I feel I have to DO NOT CLOSE THE DISPUTE FOR ANY REASON UNLESS YOU RECIEVE YOUR GOODS AND ARE HAPPY WITH THEM IF NO GOODS ARRIVE AT YOUR FIRST OPPORTUNITY ESCALATE THE DISPUTE TO A CLAIM AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
The seller will have to sort out any problems they have with the company involved themselves this is not and never has been your problem.
It is a nasty trick that has been played on the seller but you should not be out of pocket for the sellers stupidity I reported the messages I recieved and your seller should have done the same.0 -
Thanks, George. It really makes me furious when people take advantage of others and scam them. The seller in my case also mentioned the 10% payment from the company for which she was working. I'm absolutely convinced that what you have described is exactly the case here.
I might well try and find the thread jad mentioned about a similar case and point the seller in that direction if things pan out badly for her. But yes, as you say, there's no way I intend to be penalised for buying from what appeared to be a non-business seller in good faith on ebay.0 -
I get the offers of work as well but assume they are all scams and don't read past the first line. I know, Soolin. Ebay really should send out a general warning message every so often to warn sellers of this scam. If people were aware of it, then it might help to stop the scamming scumbags. In fact, I shall contact ebay to suggest this - not sure whether they'll take any notice, but it's worth a try. If anyone else wants to do this, too, the more people who bring their concerns about this to ebay's attention, the more likely they are to take action.0
