Was my gift a strange one?

Every guy I have ever known, always has taken at least one bottle of wine and a case of beer.Georgiabay wrote: »I think it's definitely a man thing. I know I'm generalising here but your average man wouldn't think to take anything at all and if they even noticed there were flowers in the garden I doubt very much it would enter their head that they can actually be picked. They probably think they can only be bought.
The ladies obviously appreciated them.
I am so tired of carrying in cases of beer, I no longer party.0 -
You would be welcome at my BBQ any time with home grown flowers, what a lovely thought! Bought flowers often don't open properly and die early so are a waste of money anyway!Last weekend we went to a friend's house for a barbecue. There was a group of three ladies, their husbands and all our children there and we all know each other quite well.
Anyway, I took along a bottle of white wine and a bunch of roses that I'd picked from my garden. Both my husband and one of the other lady's husband thought this was a very strange thing to do and thought it would have been better to have bought flowers. They thought it looked a bit 'cheap' getting them from your own garden. They were beautiful full blooms, not tatty brown ones or anything!
I just wondered if I made a faux pas or if you would agree that homegrown flowers are a nicer gift than bought ones?Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Its a lovely thing to do. If you buy them from a shop they are never as nice, or real, and you're giving up more by no longer having them in your garden than you are by just handing over the cash.
Why didn't your Dh back you up??Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Oh my gosh, you sound like you have some rather shallow friends around!!
I would be more than happy with cut flowers from your garden and would very much appreciate the personal element of the gift. It is a shmae that some people have to equate the gift soley by the monetary value. Hold your head up high and do the same again next time just to see the look on is face, I would
.
I often cut the flowers from our garden to put in a vase, lovely. Maybe if you had wrapped them in a tesco carrier bag they would have been more acceptable for him?
Yes, I agree with homemade cake too. Yummy, always better than shop bought, unless its from my sister
