I think it's definitely a man thing. I know I'm generalising here but your average man wouldn't think to take anything at all and if they even noticed there were flowers in the garden I doubt very much it would enter their head that they can actually be picked. They probably think they can only be bought.
    The ladies obviously appreciated them.

I thought they only came from Tesco's petrol stations, at 9.00pm when you realised that's why your wife hadn't been talking to you all night.
You gave the flowers because you like flowers.
Men give flowers because you tell us to, so obviously the more they cost the more you'll like them.
It's a man thing. He didn't complain about the wine did he.

I think it was very generous and such a thoughtful gift.

I have recently lost my Father, I have received cards from friends but the card that reduced me to tears was the home made card from a company I deal with at work. I sobbed like I would never stop. it takes time to think to buy a card, but it means so much more to have to take the time to produce something.

I think you should just brush off the ungrateful opinions from your DH and the other lady.
Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY

homemade is fantastic, it is definitely the thought that counts. When my horse was put down, I wanted one of his shoes mounting on a wooden plaque, but it was so expensive. One of the regulars in the pub overheard me, took the shoe and came back a week later with a wooden plaque with the silver shoe on, and his name underneath :-) It meant so much

The other bloke didn't say anything to my face but his wife, my friend, told me he'd made a comment to her saying "What was that about? Picked from the garden?!"

My first thought on reading this was to feel sorry for your friend, being married to him.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.

I think that's a lovely thought. I'd much prefer home grown flowers to shop bought. I think some people's ideas are a bit skewed these days, home made cake is a much better gift than bought too :)

As a keen gardener myself I would be delighted to to be given home grown flowers knowing they'd been tended with the same care that I give to my own plants. And if somebody had given me home grown roses with a delightful perfume rather than those sterile budded roses which you see in florists which have no smell at all and usually die in bud without even having a chance to open, I'd be even more thrilled.
  • I think it's a lovely gift and shows that you put some thought into your gift. I would be very happy to be given flowers from someone's garden.

Home grown every time for me much nicer than forced ones from mass produced greenhouses.
