We followed your advice and bought Standard cover from Direct Travel for a trip which we had to abandon as the flight was cancelled.
What we didn't realise is that the excess is per person and not per policy so that it was hardly worth pursuing the claim.
Hopefully future purchasers will read the small print more carefully than we did!0 -
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this website -travel insurance web
I've used it for about 5+ years now - when I needed to make a claim for medical expenses the Doctor I went to in Gran Canaria told me that it was one of the best insurance covers he had seen! I had to pay for my treatment due to flying home the next day but the insurance paid me back within a few weeks of being home0 -
Re Nationwide free European Travel Insurance. The cover is in deed good. Also, I needed to extend travel insurance for a visit to Candada and USA, but now with a couple of fairly minor health conditions. I got quotes from the MME recommended moneysupermarket.com site and the quotes for and annual worldwide policy jumped fomr about £45 to over £100 with the couple of minor medical conditions added. I rang Nationwide and they extended th ecover from European to Worldwide, including those entra medial conditions, for just £20. Also, the moneysupermarket.com offerings did not match up to the Nationwide cover until the premiums reached up to about £180. A bargain indeed!
So if you travel abroad a bit, it is a good idea for either you or your partner to have a joint Nationwide account and pay in the required amount each month, to get this free cover, and with free banking. In other bank accounts, you have to pay them!0 -
Hi all,
Can someone point me in the direction of a good insurance company that isn't necessarily the cheapest, but with good service and minimal hassle.
I'm moving to Malaysia this year for the foreseeable future. I plan on travelling a lot around the South East Asia region in between my work commitments. I'm quite an outdoorsy type so will need cover for sports such as rock climbing, kayaking, trekking etc.
I'll be taking a lot of my personal possessions including computer, DSLR camera and other bits and pieces which I'd like covered for theft.
I need something that will cover all of that but not sure where to start. I've got quotes from insurefortravel.co.uk and worldnomads.com ranging from 600-1000 for 15-18 months. That's probably about what I'm happy to pay but at that price I want to make sure there wont be many headaches should I need to claim. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks,
Steve0 -
Does anyone know of a travel insurance co which will give under 18's travel cover? My daughter is 16 and is going to spend time in France with her penfriend, but it seems most co's have a minimum age of 18.0

M&S premium club (£180 pa) gives free worldwide travel for couple upto age 80. I reckon it's worth it if you shop in Marks because it also gives lots of money off coupons, free coffee etc0

I am going to the Shetland Isles for a couple of weeks in October so I am within the UK and don't need medical cover or repat cover nor the various conditions about other covers after you leave the UK. What I do need is cover for the cost of my travel to and from the Shetlands by ferry (with car) and accommodation costs. Only about £1000 all in but a sizeable chunk for an OAP to lose if things go wrong.
A lot of travel insurance policies cover trips within the UK, normally with a pre-requisite of having a minimum number of nights pre-booked accommodation or something like that. You want to look at what they define as a trip and then what sections only offer cover outside of the UK and maybe try and find a policy where the limits on the bits that don't apply to you are low and hopefully that would mean the price overall was lower. Or you could look for a policy exclusively for UK trips, but I don't know any of those by name, sorry.0 -
Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me. I'm finding it difficult to find the right policy.
I'm going travelling in a few days for an undetermined period. Start London - Greece - Indonesia - ? somewhere else in Asia - ending in Sydney Australia with a return date of 12 months following arrival date (or additional visa etc..)
I need to cover a new laptop as well as a camera and watch all valued over the avg £250 / item limit.
I'll probably do some scuba too. Additionally looking for cover that does include the higher end stuff like airlifts if in the wilderness and hurt / ill etc.
Spent absolutely ages looking at different policies and was just gonna go for something like Post office / STA in the end but they didn't get great reviews and wouldn't have fully covered my items either!
Does anyone hve any suggestions please?
Many thanks in advance,
Lex0
