  • Hi Everyone

I'm heading to Australia in a few weeks to work for at least a year and I'm looking for insurance.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that they have used for a working holiday?

I have got a few quotes but they seem to range from £200 to £900!!
On travel forums people advise to get insurance with ambulance cover but I can't see that offered in any policy.

Also should I get additional medical cover on a separate policy?

    Any help would be great!!

    Thanks
  • Hi, I am 65 and am usually on an annual policy thru LTSB (AXA) my renewal premium has just been raised from 130 to 200 GBP. I find this a bit excessive.
My situation is a bit unusual because I am out of the UK travelling for most of the year, I live on a boat currently in LA and travel for 3 to 6 months to Canada and then back to my boat for 3 months in US, tho im just about to embark on a trip through the Panama canal into the Caribbean and then probably back to UK by mid 2013. though this means I will again be away from UK for nearly another year.
I am wondering if there is a cheaper annual policy that will give me enough cover in my situation to give me medical, flight and hotel cover as this will almost always be DIY booking, My boat is covered by seperate insurance.

Can anyone suggest a solution please???

    Regards Mike
  • Hi
I recently got back from New York. My flights were delayed by 4 days by the storm and I had a rather large hotel bill to cover the extra days, over 1000 dollars . I am insured with Protect Your Bubble economy worldwide annual policy as recommended by this website, when I rang them to claim I found out that delays are not covered at all in economy only standard and above. Travel delay is something I never even thought of looking at assuming I would be covered.
SO BEWARE...I think this is something that should be mentioned upfront when buying the policy.

    Hi,

I'm taking 8 months off work to work as a volunteer in a few African countries and need longer travel insurance. Most of the policies have a one month limit. I found a site offering various policies which give a year but to find out how much they quote you have to fill in all your details on each policy!

Any pointers on the cheapest and most comprehensive longer travel insurance policies?

    Many thanks!

Hi can anyone advise me who to get cheap travel insurance from, I have pre-existing conditions that don't and will not affect me on holiday - mild asthma, and a couple of mental health problems anxiety depression etc. my quotes so far have been absurd some£100+ and then £40+ excluding pre-existing. I've looked at MSE advise which says if you buy a policy without declaring your pre-existing your policy is worthless. what should I do? please help!!

I have just got an annual European policy for a couple with Eurotunnel Insurance for £70.50. You have to be using their Eurotunnel service at least once within the year but I think they offer world cover as well as european. The only pre existing question they ask is pasted and copied from the policy document here:
"• It is a condition of this policy that:
1 If you have a medical condition, you must ask your doctor if it
is safe for you to travel to your chosen destination,"

    And here:
"2 If you have a medical condition, you must tell us about any
changes in your circumstances before you travel.
3 You will not be covered if you travel against the advice of your
doctor. If you had not consulted your doctor before travelling,
your doctor will need to provide confirmation that, had they
been consulted they would have considered you fit to travel."

I am pretty experienced at looking for this type of insurance over the years as I am a kidney transplant patient. I have never previously been able to get annual insurance and I feel happy that I can comply with the conditions of this particular insurance.
    URL here:
    http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/traveller-info/insurance/

If you aren't using their Eurotunnel service, it could be worth hunting out their cheapest ticket just to be able to give them your booking reference in order to qualify for the insurance. I know how difficult and how expensive pre existing travel insurance can be and this is easily the cheapest and least hassle insurance that I have come across.

Hope this helps others out there.
  • Hi can anyone recomend policy cover full cost of trip if no snow in resort when on Santa trip with snow type excursions
  • Why is it us oldies are not allowed by the insurance companies to travel abroad for more than 30 days at a time. I am 65 and have just had my travel insurance recinded because i have been travelling so far in 11 countries in the last year. It will be another 8 months before i will be back in the UK.so now I have no travel insurance at all. I live aboard my yacht and am currently in the US leaving in a couple of weeks to go to Mexico and then Panama heading back tot he UK. Can anyone advise me as to where I might get insurance particularly medical, but also travel if at all possible.
  • Hi - I think if you haven't had any check ups/investigations or taken medication for it in the last 12 months then its not declarable - I would check this with individual insurers though.

Does anyone know how long after you have an illness you can stop declaring. I had Breast Cancer in 1998 and no longer have check ups, any offers of advice?

Hi, am new to this posting game! Am looking for reasonably priced travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions. My son has had benign brain tumour and is asthmatic. Can anyone help with a good priced company?
    thanks, Anuska

I would suggest trying World First as I have used them for my travel insurance as i have medical conditions.
