Is the reason for her illness a condition which existed when you booked the holiday / took out the insurance?

If so, did you declare it to the insurance company?

Who is you insurance with as all policy wordings are different and no-one can comment without knowing the company involved?

We are due to travel to the USA in 5 weeks time. Unfortunatly, my mother is very very ill and the prognosis is very bad.

We are now looking at cancelling our holiday. Will our insurance cover us for this situation? We have already booked about £400 worth of trips and concerts too so would the insurance cover this too?

Would the travel company look favourably on us if we rescheduled the holiday for next year perhaps?

Sorry to hear that. But wouldn't it, given that none of us have seen the policy or know the full facts, be better to ask the two companies direct?

The insurance claim will depend on your mother's state of health at the time the policy was taken out, and whether, if there was any possibility of a claim, a disclosure was made to the insurer. If they don't agree to pay, a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service might succeed, but it would certainly be worth talking to the travel company to see what they could offer you.

Good luck - let us know how you get on. :)

I find these companies are never open outside of when I'm trying to book insurance. Declaring any medical condition usually prevents online booking. Is it generally OK to just book and follow up with a phone call to see whether they'll cover for a reasonable price and if not opt to not be covered for that condition? Will they not honour an unrelated claim because a condition hasn't been declared.

I've looked at all the advice and sites till I'm boss eyed can anyone tell me is there a company which provides travel insurance for holidays within the UK. I am going to the Shetland Isles for a couple of weeks in October so I am within the UK and don't need medical cover or repat cover nor the various conditions about other covers after you leave the UK. What I do need is cover for the cost of my travel to and from the Shetlands by ferry (with car) and accommodation costs. Only about £1000 all in but a sizeable chunk for an OAP to lose if things go wrong.

Hello Madmonk - I am pretty sure World First Travel Insurance do Travel Insurance for the uk - I've used them before. good company

    cheers
  • I surfed the comparison sites and came up with EHIC Plus travel insurance, It claims it's been mentioned positively on Money Saving Expert, anyone know if this is true? I've never heard of anything associated with the EHIC, so am wary but it seems to have positive comments from various newspapers - although I'm aware anyone can make up positive comments.
  • My current travel policy limits trips to 31 days. We are going away for 34 days. Any suggestions please. I assume Malta and/or Canaries are in Europe.
    Thanks

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on travel insurance. I'll be traveling to Asia for a month before moving to settle in Australia for the year.

Is it a good idea to get a policy to cover me in asia and then not have insurance for Aus, I've heard that Aus has free medical care much like here in the Uk. Is this a good idea or should I just get backpackers insurance for the whole year. thanks

I think Martins Money matters should give indication that many of the travel insurance that they recommend cannot be used for tracvelling for business For example travel to scientific congresses This could easily be missed-I nearly bought the wrong policy

  • Hi can anyone advise me who to get cheap travel insurance from, I have pre-existing conditions that don't and will not affect me on holiday - mild asthma, and a couple of mental health problems anxiety depression etc. my quotes so far have been absurd some£100+ and then £40+ excluding pre-existing. I've looked at MSE advise which says if you buy a policy without declaring your pre-existing your policy is worthless. what should I do? please help!!
