I am organising family cover for me, my husband and baby son.
Last December I had a herniated lumbar disc which has resulted in a condition called Cauda Equina Syndrome.
I have organised annual European cover for the 3 of us with Virgin which states it will not pay for
"Any medical treatment that you receive because of a
medical condition or any illness related to a medical
condition which you knew about at the time of taking out
this insurance and for an annual multi-trip policy, prior to
the booking of any individual trip".
Am I right in thinking that I will be covered for illness etc but only if it isn't directly related to my CES?
I am looking into an individual policy for myself which does cover pre-existing conditions, but want to make sure that non-disclosure of it on the family policy doesn't invalidate the policy for my husband and son, or for myself for anything non-related?
Thanks in advance.
My DH has a pre existing which we do not cover. Although I tend to renew with the same insurer (Direct Travel), I always ring them and make them re-aware of his condition and get them to confirm we are all covered for everything EXCEPT him with anything condition related. He is covered for everything else.0 -
Hi
I would appreciate some help. We are a family of 3 daughter will be 18 when we travel so all adults. We're off on a fly drive to Orlando flights with BA and I've booked a villa direct with the owners. We're taking my daughter's friend but she will have her own insuarnce. We travel frequently between UK and Spain, so am thnking we may as well get an annual policy, although we don't normal bother with insurance for Spanish travel. Anyway can we get a policy that will cover us for any USA flights/car/villa problems and illness obviously while there? Would it be sensible to buy this on an annual basis to then cover trips in Europe or would it be best just to cover the isolated trip? Hope someone can help, many thanks in advance.0 -
OK so I decided to go for single trip and am trying really hard to book with direct-travel.co.uk which apparently has had good feedbach here. I am finding themvery difficult to deal with though. Has anyone had experience with them before?0

I am looking to take my father of 101 out to our flat in Spain for a week or two. We are flying Ryanair and I looked at their insurance for him. He has NO pre existing conditions ( unless you count age) and according to what I read the Ryanair insurance does not have an age limit. Any one know whether this is correct? I don't really want to phone them as I'm sure they will come up with some excuse.0

If they come up with some excuse when you telephone them, they would come up with the same excuse when/if you had to make a claim. Most standard travel insurance is not valid for people aged over 70, so either get a specialist product or check the small print very carefully.
And here's wishing the young man a second century!0 -

Hi
I'm just about to go off to Italy with my dad who is 91. He has a number of pre-existing conditions - but has not found it too difficult to insure himself until this year. Eventually, I think he found cover on line with 'Insureforall'. I believe it has cost him about £200 for 16 days abroad.
I think the two biggest bug-bears for independent and mature travelling are age discrimination in insurance and single room supplements.
Good luck to your dad .. I expect he'll be wanting a gap year next.0 -
Has anyone got any experience of Explorer Inusrance? I'm going to be studying in Bulgaria for 3 months and am looking for Travel Insurance that includes pre-existing conditions. So far this company has come out the cheapest but by over £100 .... it looks like a good deal, but I'm worried it could be too good to be true.
Anyone have any suggestions?

We are due to travel to the USA in 5 weeks time. Unfortunatly, my mother is very very ill and the prognosis is very bad.
We are now looking at cancelling our holiday. Will our insurance cover us for this situation? We have already booked about £400 worth of trips and concerts too so would the insurance cover this too?
Would the travel company look favourably on us if we rescheduled the holiday for next year perhaps?0
