Please can anyone can help me with a little advice - I am hoping to book a holiday sometime this week for about 10-14 days in Sharm.

I`m sure we will be doing a DIY type holiday at this late date. Booking this way I appreciate we will need Independent Travel Ins (M & S, John Lewis etc) however I have just been looking on the AXA website and have got a really good quote compared to JL or
    M & S but have read the following which I didn`t know...

If a tour operator or travel agent offers two or more elements of a holiday - such as the flights and accommodation - for purchase at the same time for one price, it is classed as a package holiday
If you have bought these elements of your trip independently, you have not booked a package holiday.

I thought unless you actually booked an actual package ie with TCook or Thomson then using a company like Low Cost hols / Expedia or Travel Rep to book flight and accomodation was not classed as a package. Please does anyone know as I don`t want to get it wrong.

    Many thanks

Not an answer I'm afraid but another question. Do you need to tell your travel insurance company what kind of holiday you booked? ie I have an annual travel policy and I sometimes book independent sometimes package and decline the insurance and sometimes stay at a relatives property all on the same one. I have never been asked and always assumed I was covered for all 3. Under what circumstance did you get asked?

    Thanks

It all depends on the policy wording. They all vary as to exactly which trips/travel/holidays are covered, and which not. Some may well stipulate that it has to be a package, in which case take great care as to what you're booking.

Be aware that many insurance companies are now classing Egypt and Tunisia as worldwide rather than Europe even if they have in the past.

It "travel" insurance, not package holiday insurance so most parts of travel should be covered. However check the policy wording.

I am trying to find an insurer that will insure against pre existing medical conditions and independent travel in both senses of the word. ie: so both my dh and I can travel without each other and one that covers buying each holiday component separately. Any suggestions?

The travel insurance article mentions Virgins Money Policy being available at £14.99 through Moneysupermarket. (Europe under 50s)

Clicking through it seems to have risen to £20.61.

Time for the article to be updated perhaps???

Has anyone used / taken out Sainsburys travel insurance. I see they have independent travel as an add on and their prices are a lot cheaper than M & S and John Lewis. Also Axa`s own travel insurance with independent travel is cheaper than M & S and John Lewis yet AXA is who there insurance is through.

I need a 10 -12 day policy for Sharm - independent travel insurance needs to be incuded for a family 2ad and 1 child. Any ideas?

    Many thanks

Got my auto renewal quote through from Columbus travel - for my wife and I (both 26) comes to £67 for worldwide cover which I think is pretty good on a super annual multi-trip policy (trip can last up to 60 days).

We got this policy last year for our honeymoon but the super annual policy lasting 60 days no longer seems to be available!

Any comments on the above price?
    Regards, Robin.

  • Desperatley wondered if anyone can help....

I'm looking to get travel insurance for:
    individual cover
1 year or 18 months (if better value)
long stay/backpacker (will be travelling for the whole year and half)
worldwide inc aus/new zealand and asia
To inc medical cover and valuables

The problem is, I will only be back in the UK for 3 and a half weeks before taking out the insurance. Does anyone know of policy that will insure me for only having been in the uk for 3 and half weeks of this year?

Your help would be very gratefully appreciated! :)
