Travel Insurance Article Discussion

It depends entirely on the wording of your particular policy. I'm afraid you'll need to read it to see what they can and can't do.
Policies like this are becoming increasingly common, unfortunately, and this sort of situation could lead to an increased premium. They may have to pay you the cancellation costs, though, depending on the policy wording.
Blood test results came back as normal, so no need to worry now:beer:0 -
Hello.
I know little about Travel Insurance or indeed what it actually covers.
So any help will be much appreciated.
We go to good old Center Parcs in England every year, sometimes we may go twice taking some friends.
I usually take out their Travel and Cancellation insurance 'because it is there'.
I know I can get insurance cover elsewhere but as yet I never have.
If I do, what should I look out for?
I we (2 adults, 2 children) don't go out of the uk at all and usually use our own car to get to wherever it is.
My other question is, does travel insurance only cover you if you are off somewhere 'designated' or will it cover travelling to a neighbouring town to visit friends?
Sorry, like I said, I know very little about it all.
Many thanks everyone.** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Hi
My 12 yr old is going on holiday with a friend and their family to Tunisia. I have searched for travel insurance for her on her own without success as the proposer needs to be 18+. Please advise!
I have asked the family if they can add her as an extra on their insurance as I can't see any other way.
Many thanks0 -
Try the Post Office or Direct Travel as they insure minors on their own.0

Beginning to think this is akin to finding the 'Holy Grail' so am hoping that a Money Saving Expert out there can point me in the right direction.
Parents aged 73 and 76 have plans to travel to New Zealand (to see family) and their trip will last for 154 days (just over 5 calendar months including travel time). Some medical conditions and medication but nothing major. Done the trip loads of times before and NEVER claimed (although I appreciate past history is no predictor of future .....blah, blah).
Only indicative quote so far is from the AA for over £2300!!
Really struggling to find any other providers - absolutely zilch from Moneysupermarket.com and similar sites. My biggest fear is that they will elect to travel without insurance and that scares the bejeezus out of me.
Any saviours out there?0 -
As previously reported. Direct Travel is listed under top value in the Guide. I have had annual Multi Trips policies with them going back to 1997. They have always been excellent value (in my opinion) and have been easy to deal with, claims have been dealt with promtly - they even covered the Volcanic Ash situation.
However, I've just recieved my renewal and note that they have radically changed their policies. To have the same level of cover as previous years the premium has increased by around 200%.
I know that insurance premiums have risen this year - but I have found a policy from AXA that provides very similiar cover for about a 18% increase.
I think it is time to update the guide0 -

Hi,
You probably have tried this but if you enter specialised over 75 travel insurance into google companies come up, age concern or saga?0 -
Hi all
We have been relying on our annual travel insurance for a while now, but have realised that the three-month trip that we are on isn't covered. I've been looking online for quotes for a new policy, but I noticed earlier in the thread people talking about the difficulty of getting a policy once they're overseas. Is this going to be a huge problem? I've only noticed that you have to be in the UK when you take out the policy as a condition of some of the policies I've looked at, does that mean I haven't been looking hard enough at the small print? One or two specialist insurers were mentioned earlier, they seemed very expensive but should I give up on the standard policies now and just go with them?
Thanks for any advice.0 -
@sherpa if u already departed UK or even in planning ... your best bet is to contact your existing insurer and see if u can extend your days of cover for the trip.
I remember i was able to do so with In&go backpacker policy a few years back.0
