    Hi guys

Any advice on this one? I've had a long standing yearly renewed annual worldwide travel insurance policy with TPS/Benefits alliance.

I was taking a look at the policy today as i'm thinking about boking with Thomas Cook - and belt and braces wanted to know what cover my policy provides if the worst happens...The answer is it doesnt cover if the travel operator goes under...

So the question is - is that really an issue - particularly if the tour op is atol and abta bonded? do i need to change my travel insurance and if so any recommendations on providers who do cover tour op insolvency?

    Thanks!

    Laney

Thomas Cook are ATOL bonded for package holidays so you would be covered with that.
  • So pleased i spotted your suggestion. After phoning 12 companies and getting quotes from £300+ up to a whopping £1,534 for ww cover, for a single, 20 night trip for 2 of us (my husband is 80) I popped into the bank and for £274 have multi-trip insurance for the next year. Thank you so much. x

    Hi All,

I just tried to get some quotes from moneysupermarket for PEMC's & the site stated that it could not find a policy for me which has got me really worried.

I am looking for an annual multi trip policy that covers worldwide including the USA & allows for DIY type of trips.

    I am a male - 49 years with PEMC's of:

    1) Heart Attack in April 2009 - 3 Stents
    2) Obstructive Sleep Apnea - On CPAP/BiPAP Therapy
    3) Diabetes T2 - Tablet Controlled via Metformin Only
    4) Ex Smoker - Gave Up in June 2011
    5) I had a very short 6 week course of CBT for mild depression recently but do not know if that counts as a PEMC?

The fact the system would not even give me a single quote has me really worried that most companies now will not insure me at all.

Overall I am doing OK health wise - Doctor is very happy - all my tests have come back as normal relating to things like Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, not obese etc- can this help with companies?

I have noticed that many folks also with some serious PEMC's have been able to get Travel Insurance & some at very good prices so if anyone can help or give some recommendations,I would really be very grateful - please help!

Have a look at https://www.eta.co.uk They will cover PEMC's provided there has been no change in medication in the past 12 months.

    Hi luci,

Many thanks, I have had changes in medications but they have been decreased rather than increased & also lowered in in strength & dosage as opposed to increased - will this act against me?

You may find, Bazzie, that an annual policy isn't possible. Many insurers, though, will turn down an annual policy but still allow you one for a limited number of days. Not ideal, and a more expensive way of doing it if you're planning several trips, but worth exploring if all else failes.

    Good luck. :)

    Hi All,

I have been doing a lot of research & it seems that Travels Insurance companies will use absolutely any & every possible excuse & tactics simply not to pay/help as they can interpret things almost anyway they want. I have been reading horror story after horror story & claims denied for even the most ridiculous of reasons, intrepreations of the English Language, their interpreation of what a word or definition means etc & each company is different so tehre is absolutely no standardization.

I was under the impression that if I answered their own medical screening questions honestly & accurately then that would suffice as that is all at the time of application a person has to work with but later I find out they can & will refer to your entire life times medical history to avoid paying claims & negate on entire policy over unrelated things. Even Grandparents are not considered relatives!

I was under the impression that "Pre-Existing" meant conditions that you suffer from in the here & now but apparently in reality from what I can gather many companies actually (at time of any claim) use your ENTIRE MEDICAL HISTORY to base things on which is just ridiculous imho.

There is no way any person can reasonably remember such things - even very minor things & regular check ups, routine appointments, non serious things are used to negate your insurance.

In regards to medical stuff they ask to state things in terms of "EVER" & "ALL" etc. Is one supposed to inform them of every doctor visit, every illness no matter how minor or if resolved, every non serious hospital out patient visit etc since birth?

This is a nightmare & there seems to be no help or guidance from the bodies that regulate the industry - really don't know what to do as reading & then trying to actually understand the endless + complex T&C's for each & every company I approach is beyond me & most ordinary folk I would have thought?
