Hello,
Me and my partner are doing a 5-month trip home (to NZ) beginning in the start of august. after finishing a 2-year working visa. We are travelling through Portugal, Morocco, Spain, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Syria (conflict permitting), Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia arriving home on before christmas. What sort of travel insurance would you recommend, and if so can you recommend a company?
We would like to go budget as possible but still would like cover for any major event (ie medical emergency etc). Also, is there anything we should be particularly careful of (in the small print) with Syria being in civil unrest at the moment?
I have also heard that since we are not heading back to the UK to fly home, this can limit your cover with UK companies?
Cheers for any tips you can think of,
Jeremy

I am trying to find affordable travel insurance for my 86 yr old Dad with type 2 diabetes - diet controlled - who is also taking (preventative) tablets for high blood pressure. I will be travelling with him in Europe (daughter aged 56 no PMCs).
Can anybody recommend an insurer pls.
I am happy to waive cancellation cover. Baggage, spectacles & cameras etc are covered under household contents. What I need is repatriation costs (should the worst occur) and hopefully medical cover.
Earlier this year I obtained this through EHIC+ but they now have new underwriters & do not cover anybody over the age of 79.
Your help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks0 -
Hi
Myself and my partner are going on a weeks holiday in June and are looking to take out travel insurance.
My partner's mum has terminal lung cancer - will any insurance company cover us in the event of a death and having to return home earlier than planned?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!0 -

This is worring since I insured my 87 yr old mum a few months ago with them. Where does it say this? You mean they just don't do repatriation fees for over 79s?0 -
We have renewed annually with Direct Travel for 10years plus now. It was great value at £85 covering skiing and AOW Diving. Just had renewal notice and tried to renew on line - £184.25!!!!!! I phoned and eventually got through and the girl apologised but said that it was a decision made by the underwriters this year. They'll be needing some new customers as I, and I suspect many others, won't be renewing. Oh, and they've reduced their cover terms for divers too among other changes.
Will take Martin's advice and go for single trip from now on probably as we won't go away so much this year anyway. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Evidently EIHC+ changed it on the 7th May. They were still taking over 79s before this date. I applied for my Mum on the 21st March. You had me worried there!
I think it is the South of England next year!0 -
I am going on a World Cruise of 109 days with my husband in January 2012. We are both fit although I have metformin (pills) controlled Type 2 diabetes which I have never been hospitalized for. We will be 63 and 60 when we sail...we are having real difficulty getting reasonable and affordable quotes. Any ideas? Anybody else out there bought world cruise insurance. Thanks a lot. Sara;)0

From the article
Annual policies for Families/Couples
The Top Value policiesWorldwide
Direct travel
The price varies according to your age but ranges from £76.60 up to £116.66.
I just got two qoute's
1. Standard for couple both 30 years old £76.60
2. Standard for couple both 64 years old £172.00
so it now ranges to £172.00
I was 64 when I got this policy last year (6 months ago) for a price of £76.60. I thought there might be an advantage to cancel and renew just before I get to 65 (as they go on the age you are when you renew not on the age you are when the policy expires.) So for me their price has increased from £76.60 to £172.00 in 6 months without my age changing.
Anyway the two questions are
1. As Direct travel now have a 126% increasing sliding scale related to age at what age does it stop being the top value policy? It surely cant be top value at £172.00 and I'm not sure it was even top value at £116.66 whatever age you needed to be to get it at that price.
2. What is the new top value policy once you exceed that age.
It used to be nice and simple but now they are going to start putting in sliding scale tariffs and stuff have they been talking to power company managers or what?0 -
Please help.
My family (wife and 1 son aged 15) are going on holiday to Spain in July.
My son is taking his friend aged 15.
Can we take out a family policy that includes my sons friend or will we have to take out an individual policy for my sons friend.
Thanks.0 -

thanks, Anuska
I've just taken out an annual policy with Insure and Go paying the extra to cover pre-existing conditions - definable via their website. The reviews are very mixed but then again this seems general. I reckon that people whose claim is accepted are happy, those who don't for any reason are unhappy with nothing in between - all 1s or 5s.
However in your case I would start in discussion forums for the particular medical condition, rather than all-comers forums like this, and ask for recommendations. I found this to be a sucessful approach for covering a family member with epilepsy.0
