What's the best insurance deal for a 30 healthy year old going to turkey for a couple of weeks?
  • My partner and I are about to go away in a few weeks travelling around Europe. I had the task of searching for the best deal for insurance, I was forced to go down the route of looking at comparison sites...!

Buying travelling insurance is like buying a mobile phone on contract and what I liked was the filter that Money Supermarket have put on their site.

When you run a search for products, the cheap ones are not necessarily the best. You get what you pay for!!

What some companies have done is charge a small rpemium but boost up the excess, soem are over £200...!

What I did was use the filters on Money Supermarket so I would search for travel insurance products with an excess under £50... For a few pounds more you could save hundreds if you have to make a claim...!
  • Anyone know how the best way of going about insuring oneself for studying and living abroad for 9 months... presuming ordinary travel insurance won't cut it?

Hi, am new to this posting game! Am looking for reasonably priced travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions. My son has had benign brain tumour and is asthmatic. Can anyone help with a good priced company?
    thanks, Anuska
Ask at the hospital where he goes. My husband had a kidney transplant and Guys had a list of Travel Insurance co's that would quote. In the end I went with my bank, First Direct which offered a £12 payable monthly but this does include breakdown cover, no commission to pay on money from an ATM abroad and countless other things and as we go abroad at least 3 times a year is a bargain.
  • A friend of mine uses www.europesuredirect.com which costs him £79 and is cheaper than the one recommended by Martin at £94.00. Never thought that would happen!!

:money: NOT turning in his grave!!!!

That's interesting - were they prepared to provide cover without any additional premium or exclusions of pre-existing conditions?

Just booked a week's holiday in Derbyshire, renting a cottage, three adults and 1 child. We have to pay half the rental cost as a deposit ((£337.50) and are looking for the cheapest insurance which will cover us against cancellation/curtailment. My husband is the only driver so if he cannot go it will stop everyone else going.

Actually, if we get to our holiday and he takes ill, etc. how are we covered for getting home as he wouldn't be able to get us back?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello all,
    New to this,
I have booked holiday accommodation direct with apartment owner for my family and I in Spain. Flights booked with Ryanair. This is the first time doing this and wonder what type of travel insurance (single trip) I will require. Are there any that can be tailor made that I can add things to, ie ash cloud problems affecting holiday, fraud on apartment booking, accidental damage to apartment or anything else.
Many thanks with any help with this.

Have mentioned this before - EHIC+, which is listed for over-65s has changed since I took it out last year, and I think the change could be expensive! I think people should be made VERY aware of this so that they can make an informed decision.

Up until June (I think it was) you were not covered for EHIC expenses but you WERE for any unavoidable additional medical expenses (this could include call-outs, medical transportation, and of course the NON-refundable element of many EHIC-related charges (eg in France you can only claim back 75% of the costs of hospital treatment - the other 25% can still amount to a lot of money!).

Now, the policy does not cover medical expenses of ANY kind (it does still cover associated expenses, such as NON-medical care, repatriation for example).

So a serious accident or illness in Europe could prove VERY expensive if this policy is relied upon. Mine runs out just after my trip to France shortly and I am having to look elsewhere for more suitable cover. (This is my reading of the policy changes, the disclaimer on their site, and what seemed to be a clear email from EHIC+ - if anyone has any conflicting information i would of course be VERY interested).

    Otherwise please be aware!!

So where is your evidence? this generally looks OK to me.

Not sure if it includes ash cover though!
